We will be flying out early from the international terminal of ATL with young kids. Convenience is a priority! We will spend the night in a hotel by the airport prior to the flight. Typically we stay somewhere that we can hop the Sky Train to domestic, but is that the best option if need to fly out International? I know we can check in on Delta at the domestic terminal but we still have to get to the International Terminal. Would it be better to stay somewhere that has a shuttle to the International Terminal? Any advice on the most efficient way to do this is appreciated?
For your situation, where convenience is key, especially with young kids, staying as close as possible to the International Terminal at ATL (Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport) is a good strategy. Here are a few options to consider:
If you want to avoid any potential confusion or time spent transferring between terminals, it might be most convenient to book a hotel that offers a shuttle directly to the International Terminal (Terminal F). This way, you won’t need to worry about catching the SkyTrain or navigating multiple terminals. Several hotels near the airport offer this service. Look for hotels with a direct shuttle to Terminal F for your international flight.
If you prefer staying near the domestic terminal (where the SkyTrain operates), this can still work, but you will need to take the SkyTrain to Terminal F for your international flight. While the SkyTrain is convenient, it adds extra time to your journey, and with kids, the additional transfer might be less ideal.
Popular hotels near the Domestic Terminal include the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel and the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway, both of which are easily accessible via the SkyTrain. However, they do not have direct shuttles to the International Terminal, so you’ll need to plan for the SkyTrain ride.
For maximum convenience, the ATL Sky Club and the InterContinental Hotel located within the airport itself (or near its terminals) are some options. These will likely offer you the best convenience, eliminating the need for shuttles or train transfers. However, you may need to check availability and rates, as these airport hotels tend to be more expensive than others in the surrounding area.
If you're staying near the Domestic Terminal and must transfer to Terminal F, the SkyTrain is free, and the ride is relatively quick (about 5-10 minutes). However, it is always a good idea to give yourself plenty of time to account for possible crowds or delays. Also, consider that the SkyTrain stations are not very close to the Domestic Terminal’s baggage claim area, so it may take a bit of walking to get to the SkyTrain station with your kids and luggage.
Based on your priority of convenience, I would recommend looking into hotels that offer direct shuttles to the International Terminal (Terminal F) to minimize any stress or hassle, especially if you are traveling with young children. Some good options might include the Holiday Inn Atlanta Airport or Atlanta Airport Marriott, both of which are known to offer shuttle service directly to the international terminal.
Overall, I would advise that staying as close as possible to the International Terminal, with direct shuttle service, is the most efficient and stress-free option, particularly when traveling with kids.
