Hi! Here’s a detailed breakdown to help answer your questions about transportation, dining, and other information for your trip to Waikiki:

1. Is it safe to take the bus after 10pm to Ala Moana Blvd or is it better to use Uber/Lyft?

For a late-night arrival after 10 pm, while it’s generally safe to take public transportation in Honolulu, it’s worth considering a few factors. The bus route #20 is a popular route, and it does stop near many hotels along Ala Moana Blvd, but public buses may be less frequent after late hours, and there might be fewer people around. If you’re looking for comfort, privacy, and convenience, an Uber or Lyft might be the better choice at that time of night. As for the cost:

  • Uber/Lyft cost: The cost for a ride from the airport to Waikiki can range from $35 to $50 depending on demand and traffic.
  • Booking an Uber/Lyft: You can use the free Wi-Fi at the airport to book your ride through the app. You don’t need a special plan to use it; just make sure your phone has the app installed and a method of payment linked to it.

2. Bus fare details:

The bus fare in Honolulu is $3 per ride for adults. The ride is good for a single trip between the origin and destination. There is no set time limit, but once you exit the bus, the fare is considered expired. If you plan to take multiple buses in one day, you can consider a Day Pass, which costs around $5.50 for unlimited rides for the day.

  • Senior Discounts: Seniors (age 65 and older) can use a special discounted fare, which is usually around $1 per ride. There is a senior bus pass available as well for more frequent travelers.

3. Restaurant suggestions in Waikiki within walking distance:

Waikiki offers a range of dining options, from budget-friendly to more upscale restaurants. Here are a few good places to check out:

  • Aloha Kitchen – A casual spot known for its delicious and affordable Hawaiian breakfast options, like loco moco and pancakes.
  • Marukame Udon – A popular and affordable Japanese udon noodle shop, offering freshly made udon at a great price.
  • Leonard’s Bakery – Famous for its malasadas (Portuguese doughnuts), a sweet snack or dessert you must try while in Waikiki.
  • Rainbow Drive-In – A classic, casual spot that serves plate lunches, including tasty Hawaiian comfort food at a reasonable price.
  • Musubi Café Iyasume – If you're looking for a quick bite, try their spam musubi and other rice-based dishes.

4. Flea Market details:

  • Days: Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday (not open every day, so plan accordingly)
