Please help me choose hotel

My husband and I are taking our two older teens to New Orleans this spring. It will be our first time. We're still deciding on dates and an itinerary but likely April for a long weekend. We are looking for something upscale with charm, boutique feel, in a good location. Willing to splurge in price for a great experience. We likely won't use a pool so that's not important and we won't have a car. The French Quarter and Garden District looked like they may be good options. But open to other suggestions.

Hotels that have popped up in my searches so far are Eliza Jane, Lamothe, Maison Metier, Windsor Court, Le Pavillon. I'm not attached to any of them, they're just ones that look like they may fit the criteria. Thanks for any suggestions!

It sounds like you’re in for a wonderful first trip to New Orleans! The French Quarter and Garden District are both fantastic areas to stay in, each offering its own charm and character. Since you’re looking for an upscale hotel with a boutique feel and great location, there are several great options that would fit your criteria. Here’s a breakdown of the hotels you mentioned along with a few other suggestions:

  • Windsor Court Hotel - This is one of the most upscale hotels in New Orleans, offering classic luxury and charm. Located near the French Quarter and the Mississippi River, it’s within walking distance of many top attractions, including the French Quarter and the riverfront. The Windsor Court has a reputation for excellent service and a refined atmosphere, perfect for those who want a special, elegant experience. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a high-end, full-service hotel.
  • Le Pavillon Hotel - Known for its historic charm and upscale amenities, Le Pavillon is a boutique hotel located near the Garden District and downtown. It combines modern luxury with a classic New Orleans feel, offering spacious rooms and excellent service. While it has a pool, you mentioned it’s not important, but it does have a great rooftop space to enjoy city views. It’s also just a short walk to the French Quarter and other key attractions.
  • Maison Metier - If you prefer something with more of a modern boutique feel, Maison Metier offers a stylish and chic experience in a historic building. Located near the French Quarter, it’s a great choice for those who want a more intimate, smaller hotel with personalized service. The hotel has a contemporary vibe while still reflecting New Orleans’ heritage and charm.
  • Eliza Jane Hotel - Eliza Jane is a beautiful boutique hotel with a very trendy, upscale feel. It’s located in the Central Business District, just a short walk to the French Quarter. The hotel is housed in a historic building that has been thoughtfully renovated, blending modern design with old New Orleans charm. It has a cozy and chic atmosphere, with easy access to many of the city’s best restaurants and attractions.
  • Lamothe House Hotel - This one is a bit more on the charming, smaller side compared to some of the larger hotels, but it still offers a boutique experience. Located in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, it’s a short walk to the French Quarter and a great base for exploring. Lamothe House has a more relaxed, neighborhood vibe with a lovely courtyard, though it might be a little less luxurious compared to the others you’re considering.

Some other options to consider include:

  • The Roosevelt New Orleans - A historic luxury hotel with a timeless, upscale feel, located just outside the French Quarter. The Roosevelt offers refined elegance, a fantastic spa, and top-notch dining options, making it perfect for those who want an indulgent experience while still being close to the action of the city.
  • The Pontchartrain Hotel - Located in the Garden District, this hotel exudes New Orleans charm with a mix of modern luxury. It’s a more boutique-style experience with a gorgeous rooftop bar and close proximity to St. Charles Avenue. It’s a great option if you want to stay in a quieter, more residential area while still being close to the French Quarter and other attractions.
  • Hotel Monteleone - Another iconic New Orleans hotel, Hotel Monteleone is located in the French Quarter and has been serving guests for over a century. It has a classic New Orleans feel, with luxurious rooms and a renowned rooftop carousel bar. It’s a great choice if you want to be right in the heart of the French Quarter while enjoying a top-tier hotel experience.

Ultimately, if you're looking for the most upscale, traditional luxury experience, the Windsor Court or The Roosevelt are excellent choices. For a more boutique, stylish experience, Eliza Jane, Maison Metier, or The Pontchartrain would be great fits. All of these options are within easy reach of the French Quarter, Garden District, and other iconic New Orleans destinations, so you’ll be in a prime location to enjoy your long weekend!
