Lodging for 12 people
I’m looking for lodging options for a large group traveling in July for my birthday. We are open to staying together or breaking up into our own rooms.
None of us have ever been to the area. We are looking to be walking distance to downtown bar harbor, near or on the water, and close to Acadia.
Suggestions on nice rooms at a decent price?
For a large group of 12 people visiting Bar Harbor in July, there are several excellent lodging options that are walking distance to downtown, close to Acadia National Park, and offer a variety of accommodations to suit your group’s preferences. Since you’re open to either staying together or breaking up into separate rooms, I’ve included both options for group lodging and smaller room arrangements. Bar Harbor can get busy during peak season, so booking early is recommended. Here are some options to consider:
Group Lodging Options
For larger groups, there are a few hotels and inns that can accommodate multiple people in one or two units, which might be more cost-effective and easier to manage:
- Bar Harbor Inn & Spa - Located right on the water with beautiful views of Frenchman Bay, the Bar Harbor Inn offers a range of rooms and suites that can accommodate large groups. They have multi-room suites that may be ideal for your party, and it’s within walking distance of downtown Bar Harbor. The location also offers easy access to Acadia National Park. Their restaurant and spa provide added luxury for your stay.
- The Bluenose Inn - Situated on the outskirts of Bar Harbor, this charming inn offers a mix of rooms, suites, and family-friendly options. The inn features a large property with views of the ocean and is only a short drive or walk to the downtown area. They have a variety of suites and rooms that can be combined for larger groups, along with amenities like an outdoor pool and restaurant.
- Acadia Hotel - Downtown - This hotel is right in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor, offering easy walking access to restaurants, shops, and the waterfront. They offer both traditional rooms and multi-bedroom suites, which would work well for a group. It’s also just a short drive to the entrance of Acadia National Park. The location makes it convenient for exploring the area without needing to drive much.
Rental Homes or Large Vacation Homes
If you prefer to stay all together, renting a large house or vacation home might be a great option. There are many homes available in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island that can accommodate large groups and offer more flexibility with cooking, hanging out together, and enjoying the scenery. Some options include:
- Bar Harbor Vacation Rentals - There are many vacation rental homes in Bar Harbor that can accommodate 10-12 people comfortably. Look for properties with multiple bedrooms and large common areas, ideal for group stays. Many of these homes are located near the water and some are within walking distance of downtown. Popular vacation rental sites like Airbnb and VRBO will offer a variety of options to choose from.
- Oceanfront Rental Properties - If your group wants to be right on the water, there are a number of stunning oceanfront properties around Mount Desert Island. These homes typically feature stunning views, private access to the shore, and plenty of space for large groups. Look for properties near Acadia’s Park Loop Road for easy access to the park’s trails and activities.
Hotel and Inn Options for Separate Rooms
If your group prefers separate rooms, there are plenty of good hotels and inns in Bar Harbor that are walking distance to downtown and close to Acadia. Here are some options to consider:
- Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina - Located right by the harbor, this upscale hotel offers a variety of room types, including suites, that can be perfect for families or small groups. It’s within walking distance of downtown Bar Harbor and a short drive to Acadia. The hotel also features an on-site spa and restaurant for relaxation after a busy day of sightseeing.
- Atlantic Oceanside Hotel & Event Center - Situated on a beautiful piece of waterfront property, this hotel offers rooms with water views and is just a short drive to downtown Bar Harbor. They have rooms with multiple beds, as well as suites that could accommodate larger parties. The property has direct access to the water and a nice walking path along the coast.
- Primrose Inn - For a more boutique experience, the Primrose Inn offers a charming bed-and-breakfast style stay, just a short walk from downtown Bar Harbor. They provide cozy rooms with a classic New England feel, and breakfast is included each morning. This inn is a great option if you want a quiet, more intimate lodging experience while still being close to all the action in town.
Extra Recommendations
- Consider Renting Bikes or a Shuttle Service - If you are planning to visit Acadia National Park or other spots on Mount Desert Island, renting bikes or using a shuttle service can help you get around easily, especially if you’re not staying directly inside the park.
- Plan for Early Bookings - July is peak season in Bar Harbor, so be sure to book your lodging as early as possible. Prices can be high, but early reservations give you the best chance at securing the perfect space for your group.
With these options, you should be able to find a great place for your family and friends to stay, whether you prefer to be together or have separate rooms. Bar Harbor offers a wide range of lodging styles, from charming inns to modern hotels, with plenty of options for families and large groups. Enjoy your birthday trip, and have a fantastic time exploring the beautiful surroundings of Acadia and Bar Harbor!
