I understand the Adams Peacefield tour is about 2 hours. And another to just one location is 30 minutes.
I want to do the 2 hour one. I have looked everything up. But, I need information from someone who has taken the 2 hour tour.
My cousin has mobility issues but is not in a wheelchair. But, a ton of walking would be uncomfortable for her. Is there a lot of walking or is it mostly by trolley?
Also, it is my understanding that we would take a trolley from one home to the other . Is that right ? We will be taking uber to get to the tour location site. So,can’t use our own car between houses. Is that an issue ?
Thanks in advance for your time.
Julia
The John Adams Peacefield tour is indeed a wonderful experience, and it's great that you're considering it for your visit. Here's a detailed answer to your questions, based on my understanding and others' experiences with the tour:
Regarding the walking and accessibility for your cousin, the tour does involve some walking, but it is not overly strenuous. The 2-hour Peacefield tour includes visits to both the John Adams and John Quincy Adams homes. However, there are trolleys available between the homes, which means you don't have to walk the distance between them. This should help ease any concerns about mobility for your cousin, as the trolley ride provides a comfortable way to move between the two locations. The walking itself is fairly limited, but there may be short distances to walk between areas, like exploring the gardens or around the homes. There are also benches and shaded areas where one can rest if needed.
As for the trolleys, yes, there is a trolley that takes visitors between the homes. You will be able to take the trolley from the John Adams home to the John Quincy Adams home, so no need to use your own car during the tour. You can certainly take an Uber to the site, and the trolley ride between homes is included in the tour. It’s a seamless transition between the two locations, and there are no issues with using your own car.
If your cousin has additional concerns, it might be helpful to reach out to the tour organizers in advance to discuss any specific accommodations. The staff at Peacefield are quite accommodating and will do their best to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Overall, I think the 2-hour tour will be a fantastic way to explore the history of the Adams family, and the combination of walking and trolley rides should make it a comfortable experience for everyone.
Hope you and your cousin have a great time at the John Adams house!
