Maui Luaus
We have a large group of family members going to Maui in February and I’m looking for advice on getting discount tickets to a luau.
Aloha! A luau is a fantastic way to experience Hawaiian culture and cuisine, and Maui has several excellent options. Since you're traveling with a large group, it’s a good idea to look into ways to get discounts or group rates for tickets. Here are some tips to help you secure the best deals:
1. Book in Advance
Booking tickets well in advance can often lead to discounts, especially for larger groups. Many luaus offer early-bird pricing if you book online ahead of time. Additionally, booking several weeks or even months in advance ensures you get the best availability, especially if you're traveling during peak season, like February.
2. Look for Group Discounts
- Group Rates: Many luaus offer group discounts for parties of 10 or more. If your family group is large, be sure to ask about these discounts when making your reservation. Some luaus might even offer free tickets for the organizer or a discounted rate for children.
- Family Packages: Some luaus, such as the Old Lahaina Luau, offer special rates for families. It’s worth checking with the individual luau venues to inquire about family-friendly pricing.
3. Use Discount Websites
- Discount Ticket Websites: Websites like Go Hawaii, Viator, or Hawaii Activities often offer discounted tickets for luaus and other Hawaiian activities. Keep an eye on these sites for bundle deals that include tickets to the luau along with other tours or activities.
- Groupon and Travelzoo: Sometimes, sites like Groupon or Travelzoo will have discounted deals for Maui luaus. While not always available, it’s worth checking closer to your trip.
4. Check with Your Hotel
Many resorts and hotels on Maui have partnerships with local luaus and offer discounted tickets to their guests. Ask your hotel or resort’s concierge about any available luau deals or packages. Some hotels may also offer complimentary shuttle service to and from the luau, which can be a nice added convenience for your group.
5. Compare Luau Options
- Old Lahaina Luau: Known for its authentic Hawaiian experience, the Old Lahaina Luau is one of the most popular and highly recommended on Maui. It’s often sold out well in advance, so booking early is essential. While it is a bit on the pricier side, it's often considered one of the best luaus on the island.
- Feast at Lele: Located in Lahaina, this luau offers a more upscale dining experience and is great for groups. They also offer package deals for larger groups.
- Grand Wailea Luau: For a more resort-style experience, the Grand Wailea Luau is known for its beautiful beachfront location and large-scale production. Group discounts may be available here as well.
6. Local Discounts
- Hawaiian Airlines Offers: If you’re flying into Maui on Hawaiian Airlines, they sometimes offer bundled deals for tours and luaus as part of their vacation packages.
- AAA and AARP Discounts: Some luaus offer discounts for members of organizations like AAA or AARP, so don’t forget to inquire about that when making your reservation.
7. Avoid Timeshare Sales Luaus
While some luaus might be cheaper due to their association with timeshare sales presentations, I recommend avoiding these if you’re looking for a more authentic experience. They can often be more about selling timeshares than providing a traditional Hawaiian luau experience.
With these tips, you should be able to find a great deal for your group while enjoying an authentic and memorable Hawaiian luau experience. Have a wonderful time on Maui!
