Hi all , we are looking to visit Holland last week in april this yr to see the tulips and windmills. My question is where is the best place to stay to see them, happy to do days trips, we are not sure about Amsterdam, so thought id seek advice, we are a couple in our mid 50's not really ones for going out in the evenings, just enjoy a nice meal, dont like roudy crowds, so looking for somewhere we can use as a base to do day trips from and somewhere that is quaint and where we can enjoy the local food and have a stroll around. TIA
Holland, Michigan is an excellent choice for seeing tulips and windmills, especially in late April when the tulip festival is in full swing. The town is a charming and peaceful location with a great mix of Dutch heritage, local food, and beautiful scenery. Since you mentioned that you're not looking for rowdy crowds or nightlife and would prefer a relaxing stay, here are some places to consider as a base for your trip.
For a quaint experience with easy access to both tulip fields and windmills, you'll want to stay close to the city center but in a quieter area. Here are some options for lodging and surrounding areas that would offer a peaceful atmosphere while providing convenient access for day trips.
Since you’re happy with day trips, you can also consider exploring surrounding areas like Grand Haven or Zeeland, both of which are about a 30-minute drive from Holland. These towns are charming and have excellent food and historical landmarks to explore. Grand Haven, in particular, has a scenic waterfront and quiet beaches, while Zeeland offers a quaint downtown with great places to eat.
For dining, Holland has plenty of local favorites offering Dutch-inspired cuisine and regional dishes. Consider checking out some farm-to-table restaurants or cozy cafes for a more authentic experience, such as The Wooden Shoe or The Alpenrose Restaurant, which are known for their local fare.
Ultimately, Holland itself is a great choice as your base, but exploring nearby towns like Saugatuck or Ottawa Beach can offer a bit more peace and quiet while still being close to the key attractions. The tulip fields, windmills, and local charm will surely make for a memorable trip!
