Does anyone know if there is a good sauna near Maine Medical?
I'll be there for a week and ideally I think stay at the Longfellow which is an easy walk but they only have IR cabins.
One alternative is the Portland Regency which looks like a better neighborhood but a 30 minute walk to Maine Medical and saunas look only so so.
Thanks,
If you're looking for a good sauna near Maine Medical in Portland, you're in luck—there are a few options in the area, although the walkability and the quality of the saunas vary. Here's a breakdown to help you choose:
1. Longfellow Hotel – While you mentioned that the Longfellow only has infrared (IR) saunas, it’s still a good option if you’re looking for a place that’s an easy walk from Maine Medical. IR saunas have benefits like detoxification, relaxation, and muscle recovery, though they don't have the same heat intensity as traditional saunas.
2. Portland Regency Hotel – While it’s about a 30-minute walk to Maine Medical, the Portland Regency is in a nice, historic neighborhood with more dining and sightseeing options nearby. The sauna here is described as “so-so,” but it may still offer a relaxing experience after a busy day.
3. The Press Hotel – This hotel is another option in Portland's Old Port, and while it doesn't have a sauna on-site, it offers a full-service gym with a steam room. It's just a short walk to Maine Medical, and if you’re looking for a place to work out after using the sauna, this might be a convenient option.
4. Spa at the Portland Harbor Hotel – Located in the Old Port area, this hotel offers a more luxurious experience and has a full-service spa with a sauna. If you’re looking for a proper sauna experience, the Portland Harbor Hotel might be a good choice, but it’s a bit farther from Maine Medical.
5. Salt Water Sauna – If you're looking for a more dedicated sauna experience, consider Salt Water Sauna. It’s located a bit outside of the city center, but it offers traditional wood saunas and infrared saunas in a peaceful, relaxed setting. They also offer private saunas for an additional level of comfort and privacy.
Summary: Based on your criteria, the Longfellow Hotel is probably your best option for walking distance and ease of access to Maine Medical, although it only has infrared saunas. If you're looking for a traditional sauna or a more luxurious experience, you might want to consider the Portland Regency, Portland Harbor Hotel, or Salt Water Sauna, though some of these are further away. For a more convenient sauna experience, you could also consider The Press Hotel, with its steam room offering a different type of heat therapy.
Enjoy your stay in Portland, and hopefully you find the perfect spot to relax after a busy week at Maine Medical!
