Getting around
Hello again 😆
We’re arriving April 5th with our two sons ( 16 and 15yrs) and starting at W. We have a reservation at crossroads kitchen Sunday at 10hrs. I was thinking we would get a monorail pass but note it’s half hour walk each side to the stations. That’s an early start for 2 teenage boys! Especially Asher we don’t arrive until 9pm the night before from UK.
What do you guys think about the buses? Is it likely to be quicker for us to get around or do we just bite the bullet and get a taxi there?
Always love to hear all your opinions on this and anything else you may want to share that could be useful for us.
Thanks
Hey there! It sounds like you’re gearing up for an exciting trip with your family, and you’ve got a good question about getting around Vegas! I can definitely see your concern with getting your two teenage boys up and out the door early, especially after a long flight from the UK. Let's dive into the options:
Monorail vs. Bus vs. Taxi
- Monorail: The monorail is a popular option for getting around Las Vegas, especially if you’re traveling along the Strip. However, as you mentioned, there’s a good bit of walking to get to the stations, and the monorail doesn’t go all the way down the Strip—it mostly covers a section from the MGM Grand to the Sahara. If you’re staying at the W, it’s probably a little too far to walk to the station, especially with the boys, so it may not be the most convenient option for that early start. Plus, with the walking to the station and waiting for the train, you might end up spending a lot of time compared to other methods.
- Buses: The bus system in Las Vegas is actually pretty good, and there are several routes that run along the Strip. The buses are relatively inexpensive, and you won’t have to worry about the long walk to a station like with the monorail. However, buses can get crowded and take a bit longer, depending on the time of day. For early mornings, though, they’re usually not too packed. It's a good option if you’re looking for a more affordable choice and don’t mind a little extra time on the road.
- Taxis/Uber/Lyft: Given that you’ll have to get to Crossroads Kitchen early, I’d say a taxi or ride-share might be your best bet for this specific trip. It’ll be much quicker and more convenient than walking to the monorail or waiting for a bus. With Uber or Lyft, you can get a ride right to the door, and it’ll save you the hassle of public transport. It might be a bit pricier, but considering the timing and convenience, I think it’s worth it. Plus, it’ll keep your boys from getting grumpy from a long walk early in the morning!
Other Tips:
- Vegas Traffic: Be aware that traffic in Vegas can be a bit unpredictable, especially in the mornings or during busy times. If you’re planning on taking a taxi or ride-share, allow a little extra time just in case.
- Stay Hydrated: Vegas can get pretty hot, even in April, so make sure you all stay hydrated while out and about.
- Explore the Strip: Since you’re staying at the W, you’re in a good spot to explore nearby attractions. Check out some of the resorts and their pools, or hit up the Bellagio fountains, which are an easy walk. If your boys are into gaming, they might enjoy seeing the different casinos, too!
Conclusion:
If you’re just looking for the quickest, most convenient option to get to Crossroads Kitchen, I’d say go with a taxi or ride-share. It’ll be more efficient and save you time. For the rest of your stay, you might find the bus or monorail works better for getting around if you’re not in a rush. Hope this helps, and enjoy your time in Vegas!
