I’m coming to the island for the first time with my spouse. Staying for three nights in August. I’m having a hard time deciding on a hotel. Want a water view with sunset. Top 3 choices are Grand, Iroquois and Chippewa. Like grand as it seems everyone thinks it’s the best, Iroquois for the boutique and Chippewa for location. Any help would be much appreciated.
It sounds like you're in for a wonderful time on Mackinac Island! Each of the three hotels you're considering—The Grand Hotel, Iroquois, and Chippewa—offers something special, so let me break down their strengths to help you make a decision.
1. The Grand Hotel
The Grand is undoubtedly the most iconic hotel on Mackinac Island, known for its historic charm and old-world luxury. It boasts the world’s longest porch, offering fantastic views of the Straits of Mackinac, especially during sunset. This hotel offers a classic, upscale experience, with elegant rooms, a rich history, and stunning views. If you're looking for a grand and traditional atmosphere, this could be the right choice. The Grand Hotel is a bit of a splurge, but if you're after that iconic, luxurious experience, it’s a fantastic option.
2. Iroquois Hotel
The Iroquois is a smaller, boutique hotel located on the water's edge with fantastic views of the harbor and sunset. If you're seeking a quieter, more intimate experience with a personal touch, the Iroquois might be a better fit. It’s known for its excellent customer service and charm. Its water-facing rooms provide great views, and it's just a short walk to downtown. You’ll get a peaceful stay without sacrificing proximity to all the main attractions of Mackinac Island.
3. Chippewa Hotel
The Chippewa Hotel is known for its fantastic location right by the harbor, offering easy access to downtown Mackinac Island. It’s a great choice if you want to be in the heart of the island’s activity while still enjoying waterfront views. The hotel’s location is a huge advantage, especially if you’re planning to do a lot of exploring on foot, as it’s centrally located. The Chippewa is a more budget-friendly option compared to The Grand, but you’ll still enjoy great views and a comfortable stay.
