Falmouth to p town
Can you go round trip from Fairmont to P town make it a one day trip and enjoy the sites and stops along the way? Last week of June is our travel time first time visitors.
A round trip from Falmouth to Provincetown (P-town) in one day is definitely doable, but it will be a busy day. The distance between Falmouth and Provincetown is approximately 45 miles one-way, and the drive can take about 1.5 to 2 hours without stops, so planning for some sightseeing along the way is key to making the trip enjoyable.
Here’s how you can structure your day:
- Start early: To maximize your time, start your day early. If you can leave Falmouth by 8:00 AM, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the drive, explore some sights, and still return at a reasonable hour.
- Plan for stops: There are several interesting places to visit along the Cape Cod National Seashore and the drive between Falmouth and Provincetown:
- Sandwich Village: Stop by the Sandwich Glass Museum and the beautiful Sandwich Town Neck Beach.
- Heritage Museums & Gardens: Located in Sandwich, this offers beautiful gardens and walking paths, and it’s a great stop for a bit of culture.
- Wellfleet: A charming town known for its beaches and art galleries. If you’re interested, visit Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary or take a walk along Marconi Beach for some scenic views.
- Truro: As you approach Provincetown, consider stopping at the Highland Lighthouse for panoramic views of Cape Cod.
- Provincetown Highlights: Once you reach Provincetown, there’s plenty to see and do:
- Walk around Commercial Street for shops, galleries, and cafes.
- Visit the Provincetown Monument and climb to the top for amazing views.
- Explore the beaches and the Cape Cod National Seashore, or take a stroll through the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
- Allow time for lunch: Enjoy lunch at one of the many seafood restaurants in Provincetown. The Lobster Pot and The Red Inn are popular spots.
- Return trip: After spending a few hours in Provincetown, you’ll need to head back to Falmouth. With traffic, the drive can take a bit longer, so plan to leave Provincetown in the afternoon (around 3:00 or 4:00 PM) to avoid rush hour.
While you won’t have time to do everything, this itinerary allows you to enjoy both the drive and the best sights along the Cape, making it a fulfilling day trip for first-time visitors. Keep in mind that June can be busy with tourists, so some spots may be crowded. But overall, the Cape is beautiful at that time of year, and it’s well worth the drive!
