Long layover at ORD lounges open?

Our flight from Italy has been changed. We now have a 12 hour layover at ORD. We will be arriving on British Air - business class, departing 12 hours later on Alaska Airlines - MVPGold traveler (this is one ticket/partner share). Does anyone have recent experience on BA and/or Alaska airlines lounges hours of operation. We won't need food/beverage but having a comfortable chair to sit in for those hours would be lovely. We arrive at 9 pm and depart the next day at 9 am. Thank you!!

A 12-hour layover at O'Hare International Airport (ORD) can certainly feel long, but luckily, there are several lounge options that can help make your time there more comfortable. Since you're flying business class on British Airways and holding MVP Gold status with Alaska Airlines, you're eligible for lounge access. Here’s what you can expect:

British Airways Lounge (International Terminal - Terminal 5):

The British Airways lounge at ORD is located in Terminal 5, which is the international terminal where your British Airways flight will arrive. The lounge typically operates between 5:00 am and 9:30 pm, but the hours can sometimes vary depending on the day's traffic. Since your arrival is at 9:00 pm, the British Airways lounge will likely be closed by the time you land.

Alaska Airlines Lounge (Terminal 3):

The Alaska Airlines lounge is located in Terminal 3, which is where your departure will be. If you’re a member of Alaska's MVP Gold program, you should have access to this lounge. The Alaska Airlines lounge typically operates from 5:00 am to 9:30 pm, but hours can be subject to change. So, while you might miss out on the Alaska lounge on arrival, you'll have access the following morning before your 9:00 am departure, if you'd prefer a more comfortable space to wait.

Alternative Lounge Options:

  • Admirals Club (American Airlines): If you don’t have access to the British Airways or Alaska lounges at the time of your layover, you can try the Admirals Club, located in Terminal 3. This lounge has extended hours, typically operating from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm. If you're flying business class or are willing to purchase a day pass, this could be a good alternative.
  • The Centurion Lounge (American Express Platinum or Centurion cardholders): Another premium lounge option is the Centurion Lounge, located in Terminal 3. However, you need an American Express Platinum or Centurion card to access it. The lounge typically operates from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm.
  • Other Lounge Access: Since your layover is long, you might consider purchasing access to a lounge that you’re not eligible for through your status or ticket. LoungeBuddy and Priority Pass offer options for purchasing access to various lounges at ORD if you're looking for a quiet, comfortable place to relax.

Comfortable Seating and Other Amenities:

If you’re just looking for a comfortable place to relax, you can also find seating in other areas of the airport. Terminal 5 (international terminal) has some quieter spots where you can rest, especially in the later evening when it’s less crowded. Many of these areas also offer charging stations for your devices.

Considerations for Your Long Layover:

  • If you’re willing to leave the airport for a bit, there are several hotels near O'Hare that offer short-term stays, including the Hyatt Regency O'Hare, which offers free shuttles to the airport. This might be a good option if you’d prefer to stretch out in a bed for a few hours.
  • If you'd prefer to stay within the airport, some lounges, such as those in Terminal 3, may be open the following morning before your departure and could be a great way to relax in comfort.

In summary, while you may not be able to access the British Airways lounge during your late-night arrival, you should have access to the Alaska Airlines lounge before your departure the next day. If you’re looking for something to do during the layover, there are also other lounges and quiet areas in the airport where you can relax. Have a great trip!
