Connecting flight

I’m taking united from Fargo North Dakota to New York connecting at ORD. Connecting time is very tight. One ticket. I know that if I miss the flight due to delays, united is responsible to put me on next available flight. But, where do I go for help in Chicago airport? Is there united help desk?

If you are connecting through O’Hare (ORD) on a tight United connection, it’s good to know where to go and what to expect. Since you’re on a single ticket, United is responsible for getting you on the next available flight if your first flight is delayed or causes you to miss your connection.

Here’s what you need to know for help at Chicago O’Hare:

  • United Help Desks: United has multiple customer service counters and help desks throughout ORD. Major locations include:
    • Terminal 1, near gates B and C – main ticketing and customer service counters.
    • Terminal 1, near the security checkpoints and concourses – for quick assistance.
  • Gate Agents: If your flight is delayed or you’re running late, go straight to the gate of your connecting flight. The gate agents can check you in and assist with rebooking if needed.
  • United App / Phone: The United mobile app can also help you rebook flights if your connection is missed. You can see alternative flights, hold a seat, or contact customer service directly. Phone lines can be busy, but the app often provides the fastest solutions.
  • Signs and Monitors: ORD is a large airport, so check the flight information displays frequently. United flights depart from Terminal 1, so follow signage carefully to avoid delays in walking between gates.

Tips for a tight connection:

  • Know your arrival and departure gates in advance; ORD can require long walks or trams between concourses.
  • Carry a boarding pass or ensure it is on your phone to speed up transfers.
  • Alert the flight attendants on your inbound flight that you have a tight connection—they sometimes can call ahead or give you tips for the fastest route between gates.
  • Consider asking for a “gate-to-gate escort” if you truly feel pressed for time; sometimes United can arrange this on request, especially for tight connections.

In summary, your main points of contact are United help desks and gate agents in Terminal 1. Having the app ready and knowing your gates will make the transfer much smoother, and you will be protected on your ticket if the delay is on United’s side.
