Hi all,
For my next trip I thought about looking into getting a casino marker rather than traveling with a wad of cash.
I’ve never had one before, nor do I 100% know the process. I do know you fill in a credit application, and they can take the cash out if your bank account, but I don’t know how this would work for international guests.
Also is a market casino specific? Or can you get one with MGM to be able to use at different properties?
Thanks
Chups
Casino markers are a great way to avoid carrying large amounts of cash while enjoying your time at the casino, especially in Las Vegas. Here's a detailed overview of how casino markers work, particularly for international guests:
What is a Casino Marker?
A casino marker is essentially a short-term, interest-free loan from the casino, allowing you to gamble without using cash. If you win, the casino will simply deduct the winnings from your marker balance. If you lose, you'll be required to settle the debt within the terms of the marker.
The Application Process
To obtain a casino marker, you'll need to fill out a credit application, providing details about your financial situation. This includes verifying your identity, your current bank account, and sometimes your credit score. In some cases, the casino will require you to have a minimum amount of funds in your bank account to qualify.
How it Works for International Guests
If you're an international guest, the process can be a little more involved, but it's still possible to get a marker. Here's how:
Can You Use a Casino Marker Across Different Properties?
Casino markers are typically property-specific, meaning that a marker issued by one casino (e.g., the Bellagio) is generally valid only at that property. However, major casino operators like MGM Resorts, Caesars, or Venetian may allow you to use your marker across their different properties, as they are part of a larger network.
Things to Keep in Mind
Should You Call Ahead?
Since the process for international guests can sometimes be more complex, it's a good idea to contact the casino’s credit office or VIP services department in advance. They can give you specific details about the requirements and process for getting a marker as an international guest.
Overall, while the casino marker system is generally straightforward for U.S. residents, international guests may need to jump through a few extra hoops. Still, it’s definitely worth looking into if you want to avoid carrying large amounts of cash while enjoying your time at the casino!
