We are arriving into Boston on Good Friday for 4 days. We are staying in the Seaport district. What’s the best way to get around? We don’t mind walking but for further afield is the metro good to use? We want to do the Freedom Trail, Harvard Uni, Fenway park, maybe Newbury for shopping. Is a weekly ticket worthwhile? Also will Harvard be open Easter weekend thanks
For your trip to Boston over Easter weekend, you're in a great location with the Seaport district. Here are some tips for getting around and your other questions:
1. Getting Around: - The MBTA (Boston Metro) is a good way to get around, especially if you’re heading to farther areas like Harvard University, Fenway Park, or Newbury Street for shopping. The T (subway) is easy to navigate, and the Silver Line (part of the MBTA) connects the Seaport district to downtown and South Station. You’ll likely want to take the subway for places like Fenway or Harvard. - Since the Freedom Trail and many attractions are in walking distance from the Seaport district (especially in the downtown area), you might not need public transit for those.
2. Metro/Weekly Ticket: - A weekly pass might not be necessary for your short stay unless you plan to use the T a lot. A CharlieCard or a CharlieTicket (which you can load for individual trips) is a more flexible option. A weekly pass is around $22, but you could likely get by with a Pay As You Go option unless you plan on using the metro multiple times per day. A single ride is $2.40 for a subway or bus, so it’s something to consider based on how often you’ll use the metro. - Harvard and Fenway are both a bit further afield, and the T will be useful for these, especially on a busy weekend.
3. Easter Weekend: - Harvard University: While Harvard’s campus is open to the public, you may want to check whether any specific tours or buildings are closed over Easter weekend. Harvard itself doesn’t close for the holiday, but there may be limited access to some areas. You can always check their website for any specific hours or events. - Fenway Park: Fenway might be operating with a baseball game during that time. If you’re attending a game or doing a tour, check their schedule for any Easter weekend events.
4. Other Attractions: - Freedom Trail: This is walkable from your Seaport hotel, and you’ll find it’s one of the best ways to explore the city’s historic sites. - Shopping on Newbury Street: If you're in the mood for shopping, Newbury Street is definitely a must. It’s a lively area, with lots of boutiques and cafes. Easily accessible via the Green Line subway or a quick walk if you’re up for it!
Enjoy your trip to Boston! It’s a beautiful city with a lot of history, great shopping, and delicious food to try!
