Ramada Metaire

We are coming for the PGA event. Not interested in Bourbon St. Is this in a good area? I see it’s an older hotel which is fine. We like sports bars, breweries and live music. Is this good choice?

The Ramada Metairie is a solid choice if you're attending the PGA event and looking for accommodations that are not on Bourbon Street. The hotel is located in Metairie, which is just outside New Orleans proper and offers a quieter, more suburban feel while still being relatively close to the action of the city. Here’s what you should know:

Location

Metairie is an up-and-coming area that offers a more laid-back vibe compared to the French Quarter. It’s close enough to New Orleans (about 10-15 minutes by car) that you can easily reach major attractions, including the PGA event, without staying right in the heart of the hustle and bustle. This is perfect if you're not interested in Bourbon Street but still want to experience the best of New Orleans.

The hotel is also well-connected to major highways, so if you're planning to explore other areas of New Orleans or the nearby suburbs, it’s a convenient location. You’ll also find plenty of parking available, which can be a big advantage compared to staying in the city center.

Hotel Quality

Yes, the Ramada Metairie is an older hotel, but it's generally considered well-maintained for its age. It offers basic amenities, including free breakfast, an outdoor pool, and some dining options nearby. If you're not picky about high-end luxury but want a comfortable, no-frills place to stay, it should work fine.

Nearby Entertainment

Metairie has some great spots for those who enjoy sports bars, breweries, and live music. Here are a few options nearby:

  • Parrain’s Seafood Restaurant: Just a short drive away, this is a local favorite for seafood and live music. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy a casual meal.
  • Dat Dog: A fun and casual spot with a great selection of hot dogs, live music, and drinks. It’s located in the Uptown area but worth the short drive.
  • Faubourg Brewing Co.: Located in New Orleans, about a 15-minute drive, Faubourg Brewing is a great place for craft beers and a relaxed atmosphere.
  • O'Brien's Grille & Bar: A popular sports bar in the area where you can catch a game and enjoy good food and drinks.
  • The Fillmore New Orleans: If you're into live music, this venue offers concerts and events in a variety of genres, though it’s closer to the heart of the city.

Public Transport and Getting Around

If you’re not renting a car, you can still get around the area by using public transportation or ride-sharing services. While Metairie doesn’t have the same walkability as the French Quarter, it’s easy to drive into the city or take a taxi/Uber to explore New Orleans. Keep in mind that public transport options might be more limited compared to staying in the downtown area.

Should You Choose the Ramada Metairie?

  • If you prefer a quieter location away from the hustle of Bourbon Street, the Ramada Metairie is a good choice.
  • If you enjoy sports bars, breweries, and live music, you’ll find a decent range of options in Metairie and nearby New Orleans.
  • If you're fine with an older hotel that’s comfortable but not luxurious, the Ramada is a solid, affordable option.
  • If you plan to explore downtown New Orleans, expect to drive or take a short ride to get there, as Metairie is not as walkable as the French Quarter or downtown areas.

Overall, if you’re looking for a convenient base near the PGA event without the crowds and noise of Bourbon Street, the Ramada Metairie should work well for your trip.
