Flight tracking

How long before you leave home for Vegas do you start checking the flight for delays, etc? I usually start 7-10 days before but sometimes way more. I can’t be the only one, can I?

You're definitely not alone! Many travelers start checking their flight status as early as possible, especially for a trip like Las Vegas where there are a lot of factors (weather, security, etc.) that can impact your flight. Checking the status 7-10 days ahead is common, but some people even start checking the status as soon as they book their flight, just to be on the safe side.

There are several reasons why people monitor their flight so early:

  • Flight Delays/Changes: Airlines can often make schedule adjustments far in advance. Monitoring your flight early helps you stay informed about any changes or potential delays.
  • Weather Impact: Bad weather can affect flights, especially during certain seasons. Checking the weather at your airport or connecting airports 7-10 days out can help you anticipate any possible delays.
  • Seat Availability and Upgrades: Some travelers like to monitor their flight early to secure a better seat or see if any upgrades become available.
  • Peace of Mind: For some, checking the flight status early helps reduce pre-trip anxiety. Being prepared for any delays or cancellations can give you peace of mind.

Of course, 7-10 days is usually a good time frame, but checking closer to your departure time is equally important. If you're planning to track your flight in real time, most airlines provide updates via apps or websites that give you the most accurate and up-to-date information about your flight’s status. You can also use third-party flight tracking apps or websites for additional reassurance.

Ultimately, it’s about comfort level—if it helps you feel more prepared, then you’re not alone in your habit of checking early!
