Javiers restaurant

We have been recommended to book Javiers in Newport Beach for our son’s 30th birthday, but there seems to be quite a lot of bad reviews recently. We don’t want to be disappointed as we are coming from the UK to visit (we used to live in Irvine) and want the occasion to be extra special for all of us. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Javier's in Newport Beach has traditionally been known for its festive atmosphere and Mexican cuisine, making it a popular choice for celebrations like birthdays. However, recent reviews indicate a mixed experience, with some guests reporting inconsistencies in service, food quality, and wait times. Since you are traveling from the UK and want a special experience, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons carefully.

Considerations for Javier's:

  • Atmosphere: Javier's is vibrant and colorful, great for lively gatherings, but may be noisy and crowded, especially on weekends or holidays.
  • Food: Many reviews still praise the signature margaritas, guacamole, and classic Mexican dishes, but there are occasional mentions of underseasoned or overcooked dishes recently.
  • Service: Service quality can vary. Some recent complaints mention slow service and inattentive staff during peak hours.
  • Booking: If you choose to go, definitely make a reservation to ensure seating and request any special arrangements for the birthday celebration.

If you are concerned about the mixed reviews and want a consistently high-end experience for your son’s milestone birthday, you might also consider alternative options in Newport Beach that are known for reliability and ambiance:

  • Bluewater Grill: Upscale seafood with waterfront views, casual yet elegant atmosphere, and consistently good service.
  • Fly N Fish Oyster Bar & Grill: Trendy, modern seafood restaurant with fresh oysters, perfect for a celebratory dinner.
  • The Cannery Seafood of the Pacific: Iconic location with beautiful marina views and high-quality seafood, offering a more intimate dining experience.
  • Restaurant at Lido Marina Village: Options like A&O Kitchen+Bar or others in the area offer modern cuisine, outdoor seating, and a scenic environment suitable for a special occasion.

In summary, Javier's can still be a fun, festive choice if you prioritize lively ambiance, but for a smoother, more reliable experience for a significant birthday celebration, one of the alternative upscale options in Newport Beach might be safer and more memorable.
