Orpheum Theatre placws to stay

We have a concert at the Orpheum theare coming up. How is the safety in the area? Walikg to hotel nearby at night? Or better to get hotel in another area and drive and park nearby?

The Orpheum Theatre is located in downtown Los Angeles, near Broadway and Hill Street. This area has a lot of historic theaters, restaurants, and some nightlife, but like much of downtown LA, safety can vary depending on the block and time of day.

Walking around during the day is generally fine, especially on busy streets near the theater district. At night, however, it’s best to exercise caution. While there are people out going to restaurants and shows, some streets can feel deserted and there have been reports of petty crime, panhandling, and occasional vehicle break-ins.

If you want the most convenient option and don’t mind walking a few blocks, consider staying at hotels within the theater district but stick to well-reviewed properties that have 24-hour front desk staff and secure entrances.

  • The Ace Hotel Downtown LA – very close to the Orpheum, popular, and generally considered safe for guests with on-site security and active staff.
  • The Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza – a bit further, but in a more upscale part of downtown with easy access via Uber or Lyft.
  • The Westin Bonaventure – larger hotel with secure lobby, near the theater district but set slightly away from less busy streets.

If you prefer to avoid any nighttime walking, you could stay in nearby neighborhoods such as:

  • South Park / LA Live – more modern, busy, well-lit streets, lots of restaurants, and walking paths.
  • Wilshire Corridor / Koreatown – about a 10–15 minute drive to the theater, safer areas with parking available.
  • Hollywood / West Hollywood – further out, requires driving or rideshare, but areas are generally lively and patrolled, though traffic can be heavy at peak times.

Tips:

  • If staying downtown, request a room on a higher floor and use hotel-provided parking rather than street parking.
  • Plan to use rideshare (Uber/Lyft) late at night instead of walking a long distance.
  • Stick to well-lit streets, and avoid carrying valuables visibly when walking at night.

Overall, staying near the Orpheum is doable if you pick a secure hotel and remain cautious at night. Otherwise, a nearby neighborhood with a short rideshare to the theater is a safer alternative.
