Hiya
We are coming to Florida in August. 2 adults and 2 teenagers.
Currently we have this booked…
Flights in and out of Tampa (much cheaper than Orlando)
5 nights Port Orleans
7 nights Cabana Bay
4 nights Naples Grande
Hoping to visit most of the Disney and Universal parks and the Everglades (whilst in Naples)
Does this seem do able? With some relaxing inbetween (not expecting full days of this just going for a few hours a day!!)
Wondering whether to cut Naples out of the trip and spending longer in Orlando for it to feel less rushed.
Everything is insanely expensive and just want to get it right. Thank you
Your current itinerary is ambitious but possible, though it will be quite busy with travel and park days, especially in August when Florida is hot and theme parks are crowded. Here’s a breakdown and some considerations to help you decide whether to keep Naples in the plan or extend Orlando:
Flights into Tampa: This can work, but keep in mind that Tampa is about 1.5–2 hours from Walt Disney World. This adds extra travel time compared to flying into Orlando, which could eat into your first day.
5 nights at Port Orleans: This is a solid choice for Disney parks. With two adults and two teenagers, you’ll have enough time to hit Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and potentially one other park. Consider the heat and use early mornings and late afternoons for park visits to avoid the midday sun.
7 nights at Cabana Bay: Perfect for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. You’ll have time to explore both parks fully, including downtime at the hotel pool, which is important in August. Cabana Bay is well-located for Universal, and the hotel itself is fun for teenagers.
4 nights Naples Grande: Naples adds a road trip of about 4 hours from Orlando. While Naples is relaxing and you can explore the Everglades, this is a long drive, and you’ll likely spend a significant portion of one day traveling. If the Everglades is a priority, you can make it work, but it will make the trip feel rushed.
Alternative approach: If you cut Naples, you could spend 3 extra nights in Orlando or the Universal area. This would reduce driving stress, allow more flexibility with park days, and give your teens downtime at the hotel pool without feeling rushed. You could even add a day for Disney Springs, shopping, or a local water park for a slower day.
Overall, your trip is doable as currently planned, but be prepared for long travel days. If minimizing stress and maximizing park enjoyment is your priority, consider skipping Naples or shortening it to 2 nights instead of 4. That way, you maintain some beach time without the long drive impacting the overall flow.
