Lunch Stop Recs -driving in from JAX

Hi,

I’ll ( along with sis) will be driving from JAX airport to our Vilano beach rental early next Tuesday afternoon. Any suggestions on a lunch stop along the way, especially closer to Vilano? Our house is on the Coastal Highway.

TY in advance for any recs, etc.

Driving from Jacksonville Airport to Vilano Beach is a relatively short trip, so you don’t need a long lunch stop, but there are a few nice spots along the way, especially as you get closer to St. Augustine and the Coastal Highway area. Choosing a place near the beach or the historic district can make your stop both convenient and enjoyable.

Here are some recommended lunch options along the route, particularly closer to Vilano Beach:

  • O'Steen’s Restaurant (Fleming Island/St. Augustine area): Famous for its fried shrimp and seafood classics. A casual, no-frills spot known for fresh, local seafood.
  • Catch 27 (Historic St. Augustine): Offers fresh, locally sourced seafood with a relaxed vibe. Great for a light, fresh lunch before heading to your rental.
  • SunRay Cafe (St. Augustine Beach area): A cozy spot serving sandwiches, salads, and fresh seafood. Very close to Vilano Beach, so you won’t have to drive far after eating.
  • Salt Life Food Shack (St. Augustine Beach): A lively, beachy restaurant with seafood, burgers, and tacos. Fun atmosphere and ocean views if you want a scenic lunch experience.
  • Maple Street Biscuit Company (Historic St. Augustine): If you’re in the mood for Southern-style comfort food like biscuit sandwiches and hearty brunch options, this is a popular local choice.

Tips for your lunch stop:

  • Consider stopping closer to Vilano Beach to avoid navigating downtown traffic immediately after lunch.
  • If timing is tight, opt for casual counter-service spots like SunRay Cafe or Maple Street Biscuit Company for faster service.
  • Check if the restaurants have outdoor seating if you want to enjoy some fresh air while eating, especially since you’ll be near the coast.

Overall, any of these options offer a mix of local flavor and convenience, making your drive from JAX to Vilano Beach more enjoyable without taking too much time out of your afternoon.
