Yosemite in 2 days

Staying in airb and b in oakhurst Ca. and have afternoon of June 4, the 5th and part of the 6th so essentially 2 days. Any ideas? We will hike easy trails.

Hi! With your base in Oakhurst and only about 2 days to explore Yosemite, you can focus on seeing the highlights of Yosemite Valley with easy, accessible hikes. Since you’ll have an afternoon on June 4, the full day on June 5, and part of June 6, you can structure your visit to maximize scenic viewpoints and short trails without overexertion.

Here’s a suggested plan:

  • Afternoon of June 4: Enter Yosemite via the South Entrance. Stop at the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias for a short walk to see some of the largest trees in the world. The Big Trees Trail is an easy 0.3-mile loop that’s perfect for a first afternoon stroll. If time allows, drive into Yosemite Valley and stop at Tunnel View for your first iconic view of El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall.
  • Full day – June 5: Focus on Yosemite Valley, where most easy hikes and highlights are concentrated. Recommended activities:
    • Lower Yosemite Fall Trail: 1-mile loop, flat and paved, giving you a close view of the waterfall.
    • Cook’s Meadow Loop: 1-mile loop with panoramic views of Half Dome and Sentinel Rock. Great for photos and wildlife spotting.
    • Mirror Lake Trail: 2–3 miles round trip, mostly flat, offering beautiful reflections of surrounding cliffs.
    • Optional short hikes: Bridalveil Fall Trail (0.5 miles round trip) or Valley Loop Trail (part of it, easy terrain).

Take breaks for lunch at picnic spots or the Yosemite Valley Lodge cafeteria. Evening could include a drive to Glacier Point if open (check road status), which offers one of the best sunset views over the valley.

  • Morning of June 6: Depending on your departure time, consider a short morning hike to Sentinel Meadow or revisit Tunnel View for morning light photography. Alternatively, a brief walk along the Merced River near the valley floor is relaxing before you exit.

Tips for a smooth visit:

  • Start early each day to avoid crowds, especially at Tunnel View, Yosemite Falls, and Glacier Point.
  • Bring water, snacks, and layers; temperatures can vary from warm afternoons to cool mornings.
  • Parking can fill quickly in Yosemite Valley, so arrive early or use the free shuttle system to move around the valley.
  • Check for any temporary trail closures or road conditions on the Yosemite National Park website before your visit.

This itinerary balances iconic views, easy hikes, and short drives, making it manageable and enjoyable for a 2-day Yosemite experience while staying in Oakhurst.
