Weather too hot?

It's almost summer, does it feels too hot right now? I'm begging to pack clothes. Thank you so much!

In New Orleans, the weather can definitely feel hot as we approach summer. As of now, late May temperatures are usually in the high 80s to low 90s °F (around 30-35°C), with high humidity, which can make it feel even warmer. The humidity can be particularly intense, and if you're not used to it, it might make the heat feel overwhelming at times, especially in the afternoons.

For packing, here are some recommendations to stay comfortable:

  • Light, breathable clothing: Cotton, linen, and moisture-wicking fabrics are ideal to help you stay cool. Avoid heavy fabrics that trap heat.
  • Sun protection: Bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. Even on overcast days, the UV index can still be high.
  • Comfortable shoes: Since you'll likely be walking a lot, comfortable shoes that can handle both heat and humidity are a must.
  • Water bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial in the heat, so carry a reusable water bottle with you to avoid dehydration.
  • Layers: Even though it's hot outside, some places, like restaurants or museums, can be air-conditioned and chilly, so it’s good to have a light sweater or jacket on hand just in case.

If you're planning to do outdoor activities, I recommend doing them earlier in the morning or later in the evening when the temperature is a bit cooler. The mid-day heat can be quite intense.

Overall, yes, it does get hot, but it’s part of the charm of New Orleans in the summer! Just be prepared for the humidity, and you’ll be fine.
