E-bike question

Hello, I read here that the Island Explorer bicycle express does not transport e-bikes. What do people normally do? Do they ride from the bike rental place into the park, or do they transport the bikes in their personal vehicles somehow? Thanks!

The Island Explorer, which is a popular bus service in Acadia National Park, indeed does not transport e-bikes, as you mentioned. However, there are several alternatives for getting around with your e-bike. Here are some options people typically use:

  • Ride Directly from the Rental Location: Many bike rental shops around the Bar Harbor area offer bikes for rent, including e-bikes. In most cases, you can rent a bike and then simply ride into the park. Some bike rental locations are within walking or biking distance of Acadia’s scenic routes, so this is a common and convenient option for visitors.
  • Transport the E-bikes in Your Vehicle: If you’re driving to Acadia, you can bring your e-bike with you in your personal vehicle. Many visitors choose to load their e-bikes into their cars or on bike racks to transport them to the park’s designated bike routes. Once there, you can explore the park's extensive network of carriage roads and other bike-friendly trails.
  • Shuttle Services: While the Island Explorer won’t carry e-bikes, some local shuttle services may be available to transport bikes to different points within the park. You can inquire locally about specific shuttle services that cater to bikers, especially if you’re not traveling with a car.

For most visitors, the easiest option is to rent an e-bike and simply ride directly into the park from your rental location. Bar Harbor has a number of bike-friendly roads that connect to Acadia, and there are ample opportunities to explore the park's carriage roads, which are especially popular with cyclists.

In any case, it’s a good idea to double-check with the bike rental companies for any specific guidelines or transportation tips for getting to and from Acadia. They often have great recommendations based on the most recent visitor experiences!
