Taxi Fare

Hi everyone we are coming back to Chicago in a few weeks and not been for a few years. Is the taxi fare from the airport to the magnificent mile a flat rate or is it metered?

Thank you

Taxi fares from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to the Magnificent Mile area (which includes the Near North Side, River North, and Streeterville) are metered, rather than flat-rate. The fare will depend on traffic and the route taken, but on average, you can expect to pay between $35 and $50 for the trip, including any tolls and fees. However, if you're flying into Midway International Airport (MDW), the fare to the Magnificent Mile is typically lower, ranging from $25 to $35.

Here are some important details to know:

  • O'Hare Airport: The fare is metered and usually costs around $35 to $50, depending on traffic and the exact location on the Magnificent Mile. If you're traveling during peak hours, fares can be higher due to traffic delays.
  • Midway Airport: The fare from Midway to the Magnificent Mile area is typically between $25 and $35, depending on traffic conditions and the route.
  • Airport Fees: Taxi fares from both airports include a $2.25 airport fee, which is added to the total fare. Also, if your ride includes tolls, these will be charged to you as well.
  • Taxi Stand Locations: At O'Hare, taxis are available at the designated taxi stands outside each terminal. At Midway, taxis are available at the curb outside of the baggage claim area.
  • Payment: Taxis in Chicago accept both cash and credit card payments. If you use a credit card, make sure the driver has a working card reader (most do). There is no additional fee for using a credit card.

As an alternative to taxis, you could also consider rideshare options (like Uber or Lyft) which may sometimes offer slightly lower prices, depending on the demand and traffic. However, both taxi and rideshare fares can fluctuate based on factors like time of day, weather, and special events in the city.

Safe travels and enjoy your trip to Chicago!
