Pet sitting in Chicago

We’re going to Chicago and bringing my dog(lab) He’s very sweet but he’s an only pet and isn’t around other dogs so I’m not sure how he’d be in a daycare setting. Any advice or ideas. I wish hotels offered dog sitting like they do for child care 😁

It’s great that you’re bringing your dog along on your trip to Chicago! I understand your concerns about leaving him in a daycare setting, especially if he's not used to being around other dogs. Luckily, there are a few alternatives and ideas that can help ensure your dog is comfortable and well cared for during your stay. Here are some options to consider:

1. Dog Walking Services & Pet Sitters:
If your dog is more comfortable being alone or with a person rather than in a daycare setting, hiring a dog walker or pet sitter could be a great option. Many companies offer personalized care, including walking, playing, and feeding at your hotel or Airbnb. This way, your dog can stay in a familiar environment while still getting the attention and exercise he needs. Here are a few services to consider:

  • Rover: Rover is a popular service that connects you with local pet sitters and dog walkers. You can read reviews and choose someone who has experience with your dog's specific needs. Many Rover sitters are happy to come to your hotel to take care of your dog for walks or extended visits.
  • Wag: Another well-known option, Wag offers both dog walking and pet sitting services, and they have sitters that can stay with your dog in your hotel room or walk him as needed. It's similar to Rover in terms of convenience and flexibility.
  • Fetch! Pet Care: Fetch! Pet Care is a nationwide service that has experienced, professional pet sitters. They can provide services such as daily visits, dog walking, or even overnight stays to ensure your dog feels comfortable and cared for during your trip.

2. Dog Daycare with Low-Contact Options:
If you’d like to try a daycare setting but are concerned about how your dog will handle being around other dogs, you can search for daycare providers that offer more private or low-contact options. Some places provide one-on-one care or smaller groups of dogs. You might also inquire if they have a "slow introduction" process for dogs that aren't used to being around others.

  • Dogtopia: They offer daycare services, and they have locations in Chicago. You can ask them about their options for dogs who may not be used to other animals. Some Dogtopia centers offer "quiet rooms" for dogs that need less stimulation.
  • Petco’s Pet Hotel: If you're looking for something more relaxed, Petco’s pet hotels often have daycare and boarding services. Some locations offer individualized care for dogs that may need more space or a quieter environment.

3. In-Hotel Pet Sitting or Pet Concierge Services:
Some upscale hotels in Chicago offer pet concierge services, which can be an excellent way to get personalized care for your dog without having to leave him in a daycare setting. While these services are not as common as child care services, some places do provide pet-sitting, dog walking, and other services for your furry friend during your stay.

  • The Langham, Chicago: This luxury hotel offers a range of pet-friendly services, including pet sitting and dog walking. Their pet concierge can arrange for a sitter or even take your dog out for walks during the day.
  • Kimpton Hotels: Known for their pet-friendly policies, Kimpton hotels offer pet amenities and often have pet walking or sitting services available. Some Kimpton locations in Chicago, like Hotel Monaco, may also offer pet care or can recommend local services.

4. Consider Dog-Friendly Activities for Bonding:
If you're planning on spending a lot of time out and about, consider visiting dog-friendly spots where your dog can enjoy some outdoor time with you, like:

  • Montrose Dog Beach: If your dog enjoys being outside and near the water, Montrose Dog Beach offers an off-leash area where dogs can run and play. It’s a fun spot to enjoy some quality bonding time.
  • Lincoln Park: Another great outdoor option, Lincoln Park has plenty of green space where your dog can go on a leisurely walk with you while you explore the area.

5. Hiring a Local Pet Care Professional:
Lastly, you could consider hiring a local pet sitter who can stay with your dog while you're out exploring. Some professional pet sitters specialize in staying with pets in their hotel rooms, providing company, walks, and playtime. It's a great way to ensure your dog feels comfortable while you’re out and about in Chicago.

By choosing a pet sitter, low-contact daycare, or a pet-friendly hotel service, you can ensure your dog is well taken care of without the stress of a large group environment. Have a great trip to Chicago with your dog, and enjoy your adventures!
