Drive to Twin Falls

It's been a number of years since I've done the RTH.. Now I have little kids and I believe Twin Falls would be the easiest waterfall to show them. I can't recall if the drive (From West side) to Twin Falls is very curvy? I have a kid who gets car sick on windy roads. I remember it being early on but wondering if anyone can comment on the road up to Twin Falls. Thanks !

Twin Falls, located along the Road to Hana on Maui, is widely considered one of the easiest and most family-friendly waterfall stops, making it a good choice if you have little kids. The falls are accessible via a short, mostly flat trail from the parking area, and the swimming areas are generally safe for children under supervision.

Regarding the drive from the west side (near Lahaina/Kaanapali):

  • The initial stretch of the Road to Hana from the west side is relatively straightforward. The roads are mostly two-lane and paved, though there are sections with curves and some elevation changes.
  • It’s much less winding and stressful than the sections further along the Hana Highway. Most of the “tight switchback” curves come after you pass Twin Falls, closer to Hana proper.
  • If your child is prone to car sickness, it may help to leave early in the morning when traffic is lighter and to make a few stops along the way to reduce discomfort.

Additional tips:

  • There is parking at Twin Falls, but it can fill up quickly on weekends. Arriving early is recommended.
  • Bring snacks, water, and motion sickness remedies if your child is sensitive. Sitting in the front seat often helps with car sickness.
  • The trail to the falls is short (less than a mile round-trip) and well-shaded, making it easy for young children to handle without tiring out.
  • Consider wearing water shoes if you plan to wade in the pools at the base of the falls, as the rocks can be slippery.

In summary, the drive to Twin Falls from the west side is manageable for kids prone to car sickness compared to the later parts of the Hana Highway. With early departure and a few precautions, it should be an easy and enjoyable outing for the whole family.
