Metromover safety?

Will be in Miami on a Sunday for one night pre cruise. Staying in Brickell and would like to take metromover to Bayside Marketplace. Return trip to hotel would probably be around 10 pm…wondering about safety at that time of night. Will be there mid-July, so I assume lots of pedestrian activity at that time?

The Metromover in Miami is generally considered safe, especially in the downtown and Brickell areas, even later in the evening. Since you’ll be traveling around 10 pm on a Sunday, you can expect a decent amount of pedestrian and vehicle activity, particularly near popular spots like Bayside Marketplace and Brickell. The elevated nature of the Metromover also makes it feel safer than street-level transit.

Some points to keep in mind for safety:

  • The trains are automated and run frequently, so you’re unlikely to be waiting alone for long periods at stations.
  • Main stations in Brickell, Downtown, and Bayside are well-lit and monitored by security cameras, which adds a sense of security.
  • Keep your belongings close and be aware of your surroundings, as with any urban transit system at night.

Additional tips:

  • Stick to the main Metromover stations rather than smaller, less busy stops at night.
  • If traveling alone or with valuables, consider traveling with someone else or using ride-hailing as a backup option.
  • Check the Metromover schedule in advance; service frequency may be slightly reduced late at night, but trains generally run until midnight.

Overall, for a short trip from Brickell to Bayside Marketplace and back around 10 pm, using the Metromover should be safe, convenient, and allow you to avoid parking hassles near Bayside. Just take standard urban safety precautions and you should have a worry-free experience.
