Resort/hotel with 14 year old daughter?
Thinking of bringing my 14 year old daughter to Miami for a few nights over her Christmas break. Is there somewhere that would be on the beach that is a nice resort/hotel good for a family type atmosphere? Is it generally warm enough to sunbathe? We both love to shop if there is a nice Mall near? Not high end more like teen girl shops. Any kind help very appreciated!
Miami over Christmas is a great choice for a family-friendly beach getaway. While the weather can vary, average daytime temperatures in late December are usually in the low to mid-70s°F (23–24°C), which is generally warm enough for sunbathing, though the water may be a bit cool for some. Miami Beach has a variety of resorts that cater to families and are right on the sand.
For a family-friendly atmosphere that isn’t too high-end, consider the following options:
- Loews Miami Beach Hotel: Located right on South Beach, Loews is known for its family-friendly environment, has a kids’ program, beach access, and a pool. The staff can help with activities suitable for teenagers.
- Fontainebleau Miami Beach: While more iconic and slightly upscale, Fontainebleau offers family packages, a large pool area, and direct beach access. It’s lively but also provides spaces for relaxation and is convenient for teens who enjoy resort pools.
- The Palms Hotel & Spa: A more boutique-style option with a relaxed, eco-friendly vibe. It has beach access, a pool, and restaurants on site, making it manageable for a family without overwhelming crowds.
For shopping that appeals to teens, there are several nearby malls:
- Lincoln Road Mall: Outdoor pedestrian street in Miami Beach with stores popular with teenagers such as American Eagle, Forever 21, Zara, H&M, and also cafes for breaks.
- Bayside Marketplace: Open-air shopping and entertainment complex near downtown Miami. Many casual and teen-friendly stores, plus a lively atmosphere and waterfront views.
- Dolphin Mall: About a 20–25 minute drive from Miami Beach, Dolphin Mall offers a range of teen-focused stores, from Forever 21 and H&M to Nike and Vans, with more of a discount shopping vibe.
Other tips:
- Many resorts offer beach chairs and umbrellas for guests—check if that’s included.
- Consider booking a hotel that provides shuttle services or easy Uber/Lyft access to nearby malls and attractions, as parking in Miami Beach can be challenging.
- For a teen-friendly experience, look for hotels with pools or family activity programs so your daughter can enjoy some independent fun while still safe.
Overall, South Beach and the Mid-Beach area have the best combination of beach access, family-friendly resorts, and proximity to shopping for a teen. With pleasant weather in December, it’s generally suitable for sunbathing and enjoying the beach together.
