Hawaii Trip
Hi,
My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Hawaii at the end of June. We are looking for a safe, affordable area with less crowded beaches. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.
Hawaii offers a variety of areas that are both safe and less crowded compared to the main tourist hubs. Since you are looking for affordability and quieter beaches, it’s helpful to consider which island you plan to visit as each has different options.
For less crowded beaches and safe areas, here are some suggestions by island:
- Maui: Consider staying in Kihei or Makena. Kihei has a variety of rental condos that are more affordable than resorts, and the beaches are beautiful with fewer crowds than Lahaina or Wailea. Makena is quieter and more secluded, but options are limited.
- Kauai: Kapaa and Poipu are popular yet calmer areas. Kapaa has good access to restaurants and beaches without the massive crowds, while Poipu offers sunny beaches and a generally relaxed vibe.
- Big Island: Kona side is more developed and tourist-friendly, but areas like Waikoloa or Mauna Lani have quieter beaches with plenty of vacation rentals. The Hilo side is lush, less crowded, and offers more natural beaches, but water temperatures are cooler and surf can be higher.
- Oahu: If you want to avoid the busy Waikiki area, consider the North Shore (Haleiwa, Laie). The beaches are iconic but much less crowded, and the towns are small and safe. Eastern Oahu around Kailua and Lanikai also offers calm waters and beautiful beaches.
Additional tips for a safe and enjoyable experience:
- Look for accommodations that have positive reviews highlighting safety and cleanliness.
- Choose beaches that are known for calmer waters if you’re not experienced swimmers, especially on the Big Island and Oahu North Shore.
- Consider renting a car to reach more secluded beaches, as they tend to be away from main tourist hubs.
By focusing on less commercialized towns and neighborhoods, you can enjoy Hawaii’s natural beauty without the heavy crowds, while staying in safe and affordable areas.
