Buckhead to MB stadium

Hello,

We're a couple in our 40's staying in Buckhead and thinking of going to a Falcons Monday night game.

If we want to use the MARTA, it looks like (after the game) we'll have to walk to 5 Points station. Are there safety concerns doing that at 10:30pm on a weekday? Should we just drive?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you're planning a fun trip to the Falcons game! When it comes to getting from Buckhead to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, using MARTA is definitely an option, but there are a few things to consider regarding safety, especially late at night. Here's a breakdown of your options:

Using MARTA: The MARTA station at Five Points is a central hub, and it's relatively easy to get there from Buckhead via the train. However, walking to and from Five Points late at night does raise some safety concerns, particularly because the area around Five Points can get a bit quiet and less crowded late at night. That said, MARTA is generally safe, but like in any large city, it's always a good idea to stay aware of your surroundings, especially in more urban areas after dark.

Here are some considerations for walking to Five Points at night:

  • Safety: Five Points is a well-trafficked area during the day but can be less populated after dark, which might make it feel a little more isolated. There have been occasional reports of incidents, but MARTA staff do keep an eye on the stations, and the train itself is typically safe.
  • Walking distance: It's about a 10-15 minute walk from Mercedes-Benz Stadium to the Five Points station. Depending on the time and your comfort level, it might feel like a long walk, especially after a game when the streets are emptier. Some people prefer to take an Uber or Lyft from the stadium directly to their MARTA station to avoid the walk.

Alternative: If you're unsure about walking to Five Points late at night, you might want to consider taking a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft directly from the stadium to your hotel or Buckhead. While this option can be more expensive, it gives you a door-to-door service, especially late at night when you might feel more comfortable avoiding a long walk through the city. There are also many ride-sharing drop-off points at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which makes this a convenient option.

Driving: Driving yourself is another option, but keep in mind that parking around Mercedes-Benz Stadium can be quite expensive, especially on game days. If you choose to drive, be sure to check parking rates and availability ahead of time. Traffic around the stadium can also be heavy on game nights, so you might spend a bit more time getting out of the area after the game.

Other Tips:

  • Take advantage of the game day shuttles: Some hotels in Buckhead may offer shuttles to and from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which could be a convenient and safer option if available.
  • Consider taking a Lyft or Uber to Five Points before the game: This way, you won't have to worry about the walk after the game when you're likely to be tired and the area may be quieter.

Overall, if you’re comfortable with walking and staying aware of your surroundings, MARTA is a great option to get to and from the game. If you have any concerns about safety or convenience, rideshare services might be a more comfortable option, especially after the game.

Enjoy the game and have a great time in Atlanta!
