Is Marta safe?

2 ladies going from airport to Hyatt Regency at about 5pm and then back to airport next day about 3pm totally safe? We will have one suitcase each. Thanks

Using Marta (Atlanta's public transit system) is generally safe, but like any large city, there are some precautions to keep in mind, especially for travelers unfamiliar with the area.

Here are some points to consider:

  • Time of Day: Traveling at 5pm (during rush hour) and around 3pm the following day are typically safe times to ride Marta. The trains are usually more crowded during rush hour, which can actually enhance safety due to the number of people around.
  • Routes: For your trip from the airport to the Hyatt Regency, you’ll likely take the Red or Gold Line. The stations and trains are well-lit and have security cameras. Make sure to get off at the Peachtree Center station, which is very close to your hotel.
  • Suitcase Safety: While you’re traveling with luggage, make sure to keep it close to you. Marta stations can sometimes have less foot traffic during off-peak hours, but your route is relatively busy, so there's less risk of anything happening to your belongings.
  • Be Aware of Your Surroundings: As with any public transit system, be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to move to another car or wait for the next train.
  • Security Presence: Marta has officers and employees at stations, especially at the airport. There are also emergency intercoms at all stations and inside the trains, so you can reach help quickly if necessary.

Overall, Marta is a practical and safe option for getting to and from the airport, especially if you're familiarizing yourself with the route before your trip. Just stay alert, and you should have a safe and smooth experience.
