In the fourth year of the Longqing reign of Emperor Muzong of the Ming Dynasty (1570 AD), a canal was dug to divert water from four springs, including Faguo and Luolong, in the east of the city, into the South Lake, which was called "Four Waters Bringing Auspiciousness". A stone embankment was also built running from north to south, "like a rainbow lying on the waves, which makes people feel refreshed when looking at it."
Mengzi Nanhu Lake is known as Nanhu because it's located outside the south gate of Mengzi County. The Nanhu Scenic Area covers 408,700 square meters, with 299,400 square meters of water area alone and a reservoir capacity of 450,000 cubic meters. Nanhu Lake boasts vast emerald waters year-round, its banks shaded by willows. Numerous historical sites and scenic spots abound within and around the lake, offering breathtaking scenery and the sound of fireflies.

The West Scenic Area is a relatively large area, home to the Revolutionary Martyrs Monument and the Wen Yiduo Monument, both state-level cultural relics, as well as the Gui Causeway, Chrysanthemum Garden, Lotus Pond, Waterside Pavilion, sculptures, Four Islands, Six Bridges, Six Pavilions, and Lansheng Tower. The lush flowers and trees on Song Island in the center of the lake have a cultivation history of over 400 years.
Standing tall above the emerald waters, Lansheng Tower, adorned with picturesque bridges and willows, connects four islands, creating a scene reminiscent of a fairyland. A plaque atop the tower reads "Lansheng Tower" in gold script on a red background. This calligraphy, by renowned calligrapher Yang Xiupin, is powerful and evocative, adding to the tower's splendor. Ascending the tower's steps, one can gaze out across the vast expanse of verdant mountains, clear waters, and rural farmhouses.
