O'Brien's on the Riverwalk

Great location, but that's about it. We ordered pita bread and hummus and I asked for an old fashioned. The bread and hummus was small and very average. The old fashioned was served in a PLASTIC CUP!

Stay classy, folks!

O'Brien's on the Riverwalk is known for its prime location along the Chicago River, providing scenic views and easy access for walkers and tourists exploring downtown. Many visitors are drawn by the ambiance and outdoor seating overlooking the water.

However, some patrons have noted that the food and drinks may not always match the expectations set by the location. In particular, simple items like pita bread and hummus have been described as small and average in quality. Additionally, cocktails such as an old fashioned have been served in plastic cups, which can feel out of place in an otherwise stylish setting.

For those considering visiting O'Brien's, here are a few points to keep in mind:

  • Great for casual drinks and people-watching along the Riverwalk.
  • Food offerings are relatively simple; portions may be modest.
  • Service can be variable—some drinks may not be presented in traditional glassware.

If your priority is the location and views rather than fine dining or crafted cocktails, O'Brien's can be a convenient choice. For a more elevated dining experience, you might consider exploring other nearby Riverwalk spots that maintain classic service standards and higher-end food presentation.

  • Consider visiting earlier in the day for quieter seating and better attention from staff.
  • Check menus and reviews in advance to identify dishes that are consistently recommended.
  • If cocktails are important, you may prefer nearby bars or restaurants that serve drinks in proper glassware.

In summary, O'Brien's is ideal for its location and casual Riverwalk vibe, but diners should adjust expectations regarding food quality and drink presentation.
