Will be travelling with my partner staying at Universal Aventura Hotel, for 7 days in September.
I’ve always been more comfortable in using cash to pay for everything really and obviously take enough cash to last the holiday and more.
My friends have just come back from Florida and in conversation passed on the fact that it was expected that they would pay with a credit card rather than cash whatever they done be it eating or shopping. They obviously did pay with cash as they’re the same as me, but got the impression that it was an inconvenience by doing so. Can anybody throw any light on this subject please.
Thanks for your time.
In Florida, especially in places like Orlando, it's quite common for businesses, including restaurants and shops, to prefer or encourage credit or debit card payments over cash. This trend has become more pronounced in recent years, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, where contactless and digital payments are seen as safer and more efficient. Many businesses now offer contactless payment options, and using a card can be faster than paying with cash, particularly at fast-paced places like theme parks, restaurants, and hotels.
That being said, you should still be able to use cash at most places, including restaurants and stores. However, it's worth noting that in some instances, paying with cash might be slightly more inconvenient. For example:
If you're staying at Universal's Aventura Hotel, you can expect most transactions at the hotel and nearby Universal CityWalk to be seamless with credit cards. However, cash is usually still accepted, though you might face longer waits or inconveniences in some places, especially if you're using cash for smaller amounts or paying in local shops. Additionally, tipping might be easier with a card, as some businesses add a tipping option when paying with a card, which is common at restaurants and cafes in Florida.
To avoid any hassle during your trip, it might be a good idea to carry a mix of both cash and cards. You could use cash for smaller purchases, but cards for larger transactions, especially in tourist-heavy areas like Universal Orlando. Keep in mind that many businesses are moving towards card-only payments, so having a card on hand could make things smoother during your holiday.
