Airport Transfer or Uber/Lfyt

Hi

We are spending two nights in New Smyrna Beach August 26-28. We then have a flight from MCO to JFK at 10.20am. Are there airport transfer companies in the area, or would we be best using Uber/Lyft. We are a party of 4 people. If Uber is the best bet, what time would I be best trying for an Uber?

Thanks

It sounds like you have a great trip planned to New Smyrna Beach! For your airport transfer from New Smyrna Beach to Orlando International Airport (MCO), here’s a breakdown of your best options:

Airport Transfer Companies:

There are some local shuttle and private car services that operate in the New Smyrna Beach area. These companies can be a convenient option for a group of 4 people, as they typically offer pre-scheduled pickups and can accommodate luggage. However, you’ll need to book in advance, and the cost can sometimes be higher than Uber or Lyft. If you choose this route, be sure to confirm the pickup time and location with the service provider.

  • New Smyrna Beach Shuttle Services: Local companies like “RSV Transportation” or “Orange Blossom Shuttle” offer airport transfer services to MCO. Prices typically range from $75-$100+ for a private ride for 4 people, but this can vary depending on the company and availability.
  • Private Car Services: You can also book private rides through services like “Black Car Everywhere” or “ExecuCar,” which provide high-end rides to the airport. These are generally more expensive than shuttles but offer more comfort and convenience.

Uber/Lyft:

Using Uber or Lyft can be a more flexible and cost-effective option, especially if you’re looking for a more spontaneous ride. However, since you’ll be traveling during the early morning hours, it’s important to plan accordingly.

  • Timing for Uber/Lyft: Since your flight is at 10:20 AM, it’s best to plan for airport arrival around 2 hours before the flight for check-in and security, which means aiming for a departure from New Smyrna Beach by 7:30 AM or earlier. Given the 1-hour drive time to MCO, leaving around 7:00 AM will give you a comfortable buffer for traffic and any potential delays.
  • Uber/Lyft Ride Availability: Uber and Lyft operate in New Smyrna Beach, but early morning rides can be a bit slower to book, as fewer drivers are available compared to peak times. It’s a good idea to request your ride about 10-15 minutes before you want to leave, so that you have enough time to confirm your ride and wait for the driver to arrive.
  • Cost for Uber/Lyft: For a ride from New Smyrna Beach to MCO for 4 people, you can expect to pay approximately $70-$90 (depending on surge pricing and ride type). A larger vehicle option like an UberXL might be needed for comfort and luggage space, which could cost a bit more.

Recommendation:

If you prefer flexibility and ease, Uber or Lyft is likely the best option for your group. Just be sure to plan to leave New Smyrna Beach around 7:00 AM to give yourself plenty of time to make your flight. If you prefer a more structured option, airport shuttle services are available, but they may require more advanced planning.

Safe travels, and enjoy your time in New Smyrna Beach!
