Transport from O Hare airport to Londonhouse Hotel December

We're flying in to ORD midday in December. Would like to know, other than Uber or taxi, if we can take a train. If so, which one and to where? Given it will be December, will it involve a lot of walking with our luggage?

Thanks.

Yes, you can take a train from O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to downtown Chicago, including the area near LondonHouse Hotel, using the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) ‘L’ train system. The most straightforward route is via the CTA Blue Line, which operates 24/7 and runs from O’Hare directly into the Loop, Chicago’s downtown area.

Here’s what to expect and consider for your journey:

  • Boarding at O’Hare: Follow signs in the airport terminals to the CTA Blue Line station. The station is connected to Terminals 1, 2, and 3 via pedestrian pathways and underground concourses, so some walking with luggage is required.
  • Travel time: The trip from O’Hare to the Loop typically takes about 45–50 minutes, depending on time of day.
  • Exiting in downtown Chicago: For LondonHouse Hotel, the nearest stop is the Washington Station on the Blue Line, or you can get off at Clark/Lake Station and walk a few blocks. Depending on which station you choose, you may have to walk 5–10 minutes to reach the hotel, potentially with stairs or escalators involved.
  • Luggage considerations: The Blue Line trains have space for luggage, but during peak hours they can be crowded. Elevators and escalators are available at major stations, though some walking over bridges or through underground concourses may still be necessary.
  • Fare: A single ride costs $5 from O’Hare to downtown Chicago, payable with a Ventra card or contactless payment.

Alternative public transport options include:

  • Metra train: While Metra primarily serves suburban commuters, you could take a short ride on Metra from nearby stations, but it is less convenient than the Blue Line for tourists with luggage.
  • Airport shuttle services: Some hotels and private services offer shuttle pickup, which can reduce walking and luggage handling but may require reservations.

In December, you should also plan for colder temperatures and possible snow, which can make walking with luggage more challenging. Dress warmly and allow extra time for navigating underground concourses or stairs. Overall, the Blue Line is the most cost-effective and reliable public transit option from O’Hare to LondonHouse Hotel.
