Hotel decision for visitor with a disability
Visiting for 3 nights from the UK. We are mid road trip when we stay so we will have a car.
Looking for a hotel that is disabled friendly. So must have walk in shower but not necessarily a roll in shower. Also needs to be central to the best restaurants as I can’t walk very far. We enjoy great service.
Currently looking at Monteleone, Windsor and Omni. Is there one you prefer please and why?
Many thanks
Oh and I don’t want a haunted hotel!🤣
For a visitor with mobility considerations looking for a central, comfortable stay in New Orleans, the three hotels you mentioned—Monteleone, Windsor Court, and Omni Royal—each have their strengths, but a few factors will help guide your decision.
Hotel Comparisons
- Hotel Monteleone: Located in the French Quarter, this historic hotel is iconic and very walkable to top restaurants and bars. They offer accessible rooms with walk-in showers (though roll-in showers are limited). Service is excellent, and the rooftop pool and Carousel Bar add charm. Keep in mind, it’s an older building, so some corridors and elevators can feel tight.
- Windsor Court: Located just outside the French Quarter, closer to the Central Business District, Windsor Court is ultra-modern and known for its high-end service. Rooms are spacious, typically with accessible showers, and the hotel has fewer tight spaces, making mobility easier. It’s more of a luxury experience, though walking distance to some classic French Quarter restaurants may require a short ride.
- Omni Royal: Situated on the edge of the French Quarter along the Mississippi River, Omni Royal is a solid mid-luxury option. They offer accessible rooms with walk-in showers, and the elevators are well-positioned. It’s convenient for riverfront dining and major tourist spots. Service is good, though some guests find it less personalized than Windsor.
Considerations for Your Stay
- Since you’ll have a car, slightly longer walks from Windsor or Omni are manageable with quick drop-offs and valet parking.
- French Quarter proximity is ideal if you want maximum restaurant access without relying on a car. Monteleone excels here.
- Accessibility for walk-in showers: all three hotels accommodate, but Windsor Court likely has the most spacious, modern bathrooms suitable for ease of use.
- Atmosphere: Monteleone has a historic, vibrant charm, but some consider it “haunted” due to its history—if you prefer zero ghost stories, Omni or Windsor Court is the safer choice.
Recommendation
For a balance of accessibility, luxury, and restaurant proximity, Windsor Court is probably the best option. You get spacious, modern rooms with excellent service, accessible walk-in showers, and fewer tight spaces. Monteleone is perfect if being immersed in French Quarter history and walking to restaurants is a priority. Omni Royal is a solid middle-ground option with riverfront charm and reliable amenities.
In short:
- Best for full luxury & accessibility: Windsor Court
- Best for French Quarter immersion: Monteleone
- Best for riverfront and balanced option: Omni Royal
All three hotels provide great service, accessible walk-in showers, and central locations for dining, so your choice depends on which factor you prioritize most: historic atmosphere, modern luxury, or proximity to the river and French Quarter.
