Hi, can anyone comment on what side of the building they prefer? We are considering a unit facing the pool. I believe it is southwest. We spend a lot of time on the lanai and wouldn’t want to have full sun all day. I suspect this is the sunny side but hoping to hear from anyone who stays here. Do you get adequate shade for sitting on the lanai? Thanks!
The Royal Kahana is a popular Maui condo complex with units facing different directions, and the orientation can make a noticeable difference if you plan to spend time on the lanai.
Units facing the pool/southwest side do get a fair amount of sun during the afternoon, especially in the late morning through early evening. The advantage is the view of the pool and often partial ocean views from higher floors, but if you’re looking for more shade, it may get quite sunny, particularly in the hotter months.
Some points to consider about sun and shade:
Overall, if you enjoy direct sun for part of the day and value pool views, a southwest-facing unit works well. If your priority is longer periods of shade on the lanai, consider an east or north-facing unit. Checking in with the property management about specific units’ orientation and existing awnings/shade can also help you pick the best spot for your preferences.
