Nearby Kahului Port?

A friend & I will be coming to Maui on the POA mid November, we have a tour booked for the Monday, but nothing for Sunday We don't want to hire a car & the Road to Hana or any hiking is out for various reasons, so are thinking of not straying too far from the port. We've noticed a Sunday market, but is there anything else within a reasonable distance such as a nice beach? Probably looking at getting a taxi/uber.

If you are staying near Kahului Harbor and prefer not to hire a car, there are several convenient options for things to do within a short taxi or Uber ride on a Sunday.

Beaches:

  • Kanaha Beach Park: About a 10-minute drive from Kahului Harbor, this is a popular beach for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The sand is wide and flat, making it easy for a relaxing stroll. Swimming is possible, but currents can be strong in some areas, so stick to the shore.
  • Baby Beach in Paia: Roughly 15 minutes from the port. This small, calm beach is ideal for wading and relaxing without strenuous activity. It's protected by a reef, making it safer for gentle swimming.

Markets and Local Attractions:

  • Sunday Upcountry or Paia Farmers’ Market: Depending on the exact Sunday, the Paia Farmers’ Market is a short ride from Kahului. It offers fresh local produce, artisanal goods, and snacks. It's a fun way to experience local flavors without venturing far.
  • Maui Tropical Plantation: About a 10–15 minute drive from the port, this is a casual spot to see tropical plants, try fresh fruit, and enjoy a relaxed walk without hiking. There’s also a café onsite for light lunch or refreshments.
  • Shopping and Dining in Kahului: A short ride from the port will get you to Maui Mall or Queen Kaahumanu Center for shopping, souvenirs, and casual dining.

Tips:

  • Uber or a taxi is easy to use in this area and will get you to nearby beaches or markets quickly.
  • Bring sunscreen, water, and a hat for comfort as most activities are outdoors.
  • For a more leisurely day, combining a morning beach stop with a visit to a nearby market or plantation is a nice option.

Overall, staying near Kahului Port still offers a few relaxed, enjoyable options without needing a car or long excursions, making it easy to fill your Sunday before your tour on Monday.
