Islands are one of the must-visit destinations every summer, but every time I go to an island, the biggest headache for me is how to book a boat ticket, how to transfer to the island, where to take the boat, the boat schedule, and other transportation-related issues. Every time, it is easy to catch people off guard and feel uneasy.
The islands in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, especially some islands in Zhoushan, are even more confusing.
After exploring some of the Shengsi Islands, I decided to write a complete travel diary on one of them. I then set my sights on Huanglong Island, a small, undiscovered island closest to Shengsi Island.
Huanglong Islandcheck the details
Huanglong Island, located in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, is a small, yellow-hued island shaped like an open paulownia leaf. It earned its name from its majestic mountains and yellow soil, which, from a distance, resemble a yellow dragon coiling around the sea. Almost every building on Huanglong Island is constructed entirely of stone, sourced from the island itself. The island resembles a vast natural stone museum, a truly remarkable sight. The stone paths, steps, alleys, and walls are immaculately clean, seemingly spotless. The island also boasts the house designed by Daniel Wu and Stephen Fung, featured on Zhejiang Satellite TV's "Beautiful House," which is free to visit.

While not as famous as Shengsi's Goji and Flower and Bird Islands, Huanglong Island itself holds a unique story. The CCTV crew of "Home Away" visited Huanglong Island to film the show "Coastal Journey." Daniel Wu and his celebrity team also built a "beautiful house" on the island. The stone houses, lighthouse, starry sky, and ocean here remain silent guardians, awaiting visitors and old friends.
First, you need to arrive at the [Shanghai Shenjiawan Passenger Terminal], take a boat from Shenjiawan Passenger Terminal to [Shengsi Lizhushan Terminal]. After arriving at Lizhushan Terminal, you need to transfer on the island to another terminal [Shengsi Wulong Township Bianjiaoao Passenger Terminal], and finally take a boat from Wulong Terminal to [Huanglong Island].
Navigate to [Shenjiawan Passenger Terminal]. The terminal's telephone number is 0580-5298323. Tickets are only available for same-day purchases.

The speed limit on the Donghai Bridge is 80 kilometers per hour. The scenery on the bridge is beautiful, but please drive safely.
There are no gas stations after crossing the Donghai Bridge, so be sure to estimate the amount of fuel and fill up the tank at the Lingang Service Area first.
The bridge toll is 20 yuan per trip.
The second floor of Shenjiawan Wharf offers stir-fried dishes, fast food and instant noodles.
There's a paid parking lot at Shenjiawan Wharf, charging 7 yuan per hour and 56 yuan per day. You can also bring your car to the island if you purchase a parking space. The fee is 223 yuan per five-seater car, which includes a ferry ticket for one driver. Cars and passengers must board the ferry half an hour in advance; other passengers must purchase separate tickets.

The Yangshan special line departs at 7:40, 9:00, 9:50, 12:20, 13:50, 14:50, and 16:00, and the journey takes about 65 minutes.

After arriving at Lizhushan Wharf on Shengsi Island (Sijiao Island), you can reach Huanglong Island in two steps.

đFor transfer, it is recommended to take a taxi: There are many taxis outside the pier, all of which are metered. Just tell the driver to go to Wulong Wharf. It will take 30-40 minutes (it is best to reserve more time), and the taxi fare is about 70 yuan.
âAfter arriving at Wulongbianjiaoao Wharf, purchase the boat ticket to Huanglong Island on site for 15 yuan per person in cash. Children under 1.2 meters are free of charge, and those over 1.5 meters are the same as adults.
Note that ferry tickets can only be purchased at the dock window, and only in cash! It's cash only! But if you forget, it's okay. There's a small shop at the entrance that accepts QR code scanning and you can exchange it for cash.

Tips:
Since you need to take a boat to Shengsi and then transfer to Huanglong Island, you must calculate the boat schedule. It is recommended not to take a boat departing from Shenjiawan to Shengsi later than 14:00 at the latest, which will usually allow you to catch the last boat to Huanglong Island.

Depart from Shanghai
Shanghai is the most convenient city to travel to Shengsi, and tourists from other places usually travel to Shengsi from Shanghai.
There are two ways to go to Shengsi from Shanghai:
â (1) Go to [Shenjiawan Passenger Transport Terminal] to purchase or pick up a boat ticket to Shengsi Island (Sijiao Island). Adults are 110 yuan per person, children between 1.2-1.5 meters are half price, and children under 1.2 meters are free. Daily departure times are: 9:15, 9:30, 10:40, 11:30, 14:10, 16:10, and 20:00.
â đ If you are driving, please navigate to Shenjiawan Ferry Terminal
â đ Take Metro Line 16 to Dishui Lake, the last stop. Then take the Yangshan Express to Shenjiawan Ferry Terminal. The Yangshan Express departs at 7:40, 9:00, 9:50, 12:20, 13:50, 14:50, and 16:00, and the journey takes about 65 minutes.
â(2) Go to [Nanpu Bridge Long-distance Tourist Bus Station] to purchase a bus and boat combined ticket.
Take Metro Line 4 directly to the Nanpu Bridge Tourist Distribution Center. Exit 1 at Nanpu Bridge Station. Next door is the Long-Distance Tourist Bus Station (1588 Waima Road). Call 021-33760978 in advance to inquire about ticket availability.
There are 7 daily flights departing from Nanpu Bridge, namely: 7:15, 7:30, 8:40, 9:30, 12:10, 14:00, and 17:30. The price of a daily flight bus-boat ticket is about 170 yuan. There will be extra ships during the peak tourist season and holidays (for details, please check the Shengsi Transportation and Tourism APP and Shengsi Tourism official WeChat for the daily sailing schedule); the price of the extra ship will be slightly higher.

Return by boat from Lizhushan Passenger Terminal. Daily sailings depart at 8:20, 9:15, 9:30, 13:00, 14:30, 15:20, and 18:00. Extra boats may operate during peak tourist seasons and holidays.

Depart from Hangzhou

From Jiubao Passenger Transport Center, Hangzhou tourists can take Metro Line 1 and get off at Passenger Transport Center Station.
The departure time of Jiubao Passenger Transport Center is: 8:00 and 10:05 every day, the fare is about 100 yuan, and you can buy the ferry ticket with the ticket after arriving at Shenjiawan Passenger Transport Terminal. The advantage of departing from Hangzhou is that you donât have to worry about not being able to buy a ferry ticket when you arrive at the terminal, as they will be reserved.

Departing from Shengsi Bus Station, the departure times are 8:20 and 12:15. Take the boat at 9:15 and 13:00 to Shenjiawan Passenger Terminal, and then take the bus back to Hangzhou.

Departing from Shengsi Bus Station, the departure times are 8:20 and 12:15. Take the boat at 9:15 and 13:00 to Shenjiawan Passenger Terminal, and then take the bus back to Hangzhou.
ă1ăTickets are relatively more available on non-holidays and weekends (Monday to Thursday) and can be purchased through the above channels. There are many tourists on holidays and weekends, so tickets are in short supply. It is best to purchase or book tickets in advance. The following are common ways to make centralized reservations:
1. You can purchase a combined bus and ferry ticket from Nanpu Bridge to Sijiao Island on Shengsi Island on Ctrip.com one month in advance;
3. Ferry tickets from Sanjiang to Shengsi can also be purchased at http://m.ziubao.com/cpzxyd.htm;
4. When booking a hotel or B&B on the island, ask the hotel to help you make the reservation. The hotel or B&B you stay in will usually provide assistance with purchasing the return boat ticket.

[2] The daily flight schedules for island transportation vary greatly. You can follow the Shengsi Tourism WeChat official account or the "Daily Sailing Schedule" in the "Off-Island Transportation" section of the Shengsi Transportation Tourism APP. The schedule is updated at 7:00 am every day and you can arrange your travel plans accordingly to avoid affecting your trip.

The most affordable means of transportation on the island is the bus, with fares generally ranging from 1 to 4 yuan. There are buses at the pier specifically for picking up tourists to Caiyuan Town. At the Caiyuan Town Bus Station, there is a bus to Wulong Bianjiao Village, Huangsha Village, and Tianao Village (Donghai Fishing Village) every 15 minutes. The buses have "Caiyuan-xxx" written on them, which are regular buses.
You can also take a small bus, which is mainly for tourists heading to Caiyuan City, Jihu and Maguan. The fare is 1 yuan.
More convenient
Because taxis on the island do not use meters, you can negotiate the price before taking one. The price list is posted in front of the passenger seat of the taxi for reference.
ăPublic Transportationă
If you want to visit the entire Huanglong Island, taking a shuttle bus is the best choice. It departs from Nangang to Zhi'ao and Da'ao, passing Xiaohuangsha and Changjiao Wharfs, and there is a bus every half an hour.
You can appreciate the island's customs along the way, get off the bus when you see interesting attractions, play for a while, and then take the next bus back. It's fun and saves time.
Huanglong shuttle bus information is as follows:
