This is not a scenic spot, but the "Mother Forest" that has been guarded for thousands of years by China's 56th ethnic group - the Jinuo people.

When I first opened Shen Shixi's animal novel, I never expected to encounter the scenes in the book in real life:
One-meter-high termite nests can be found everywhere at the base of the trees. (It is said that the Jino people regard their uncles as the most important. If an only child in the village does not have a suitable uncle, they will choose a termite nest in the mountains to be their uncle.)
Gently touch the lines of the strangler fig tree that hides a century-old ecology; the best thing is the special dinner, chicken cooked with fragrant winter melon, stir-fried banana flowers, spring eggplant... The ingredients and cooking methods are very different from what we are used to.
Our guide, Papa Chong (known as "Qimula" in the Jino community), is a member of the 1990s generation, the last generation of Jino people to have wielded a hunting rifle. The Jino people, with a population of only 26,000, share similar rainforest guardians like him, including King Kong, water spiders, and dinosaurs.
We delve into the rainforest kingdom described by Shen Shixi, and gather around their campfires to listen to the stories of "the last shot" from hunters born in the 1990s. The hunting rifles may have been surrendered, but the survival wisdom etched into their DNA is more precious than any equipment.
Different from ordinary hiking where you just walk and see the scenery, there are unexpected Easter eggs buried in every kilometer:
Water: When the banana tree trunk is cut, clear water gushes out like a tap.
Weapon: Make "darts" out of thatch and see who can shoot the farthest
Camouflage: Use natural stones from the rainforest to grind pigments and paint yourself a natural camouflage makeup. It is recommended to choose red, which will make you look brighter in photos.
Foraging: Find corn-flavored Fujian worms hidden in rice dumplings! Guess why they taste like corn?
Tree Climbing: When climbing a thousand-year-old strangler fig, the bark lines act as a natural anti-slip barrier. This ancient tree has its own miniature ecosystem, and while hanging on its aerial roots 20 meters high, you might even come face to face with a woodpecker at work.
Direction identification: Epiphytic ferns always grow southeast
The Xishuangbanna rainforest is the only oasis at 21° north latitude, on the northern edge of the world's tropics, with 340 plant species per hectare.
We will go upstream, climb hills, pass by banana fields, rice fields, and virgin forests, and shuttle between the huge trees that block out the sun. We will see typical characteristics of the rainforest such as buttress roots, stranglers, and flowers on old stems everywhere, and get to know various brightly colored insects.
