Autumn Viewing in Tachuan | One of China's Three Greatest Autumn Sceneries, 2-Day Leisure

Day 1 Nanjing → Tachuan → Hongcun

07:15

From 7:15 to 7:30, please gather and sign in at Exit 1 of Andemen Station on Nanjing Metro Line 1, where you will see the yellow China-TravelNote flag.

07:30

We boarded the bus on time and set off. We interacted with the team leader along the way and laughed all the way.

12:00

After lunch at the service area or a free-flowing meal, continue on to Tachuan, known as the "Village in a Chinese Painting." The village entrance and surrounding areas are home to many towering tallow trees. In autumn, after the frost, the trees turn from green to yellow, then red, creating a vibrant rainbow of colors. Enjoy posing and taking photos amidst this beautiful autumn scenery.

4:40 PM

Gather at the right time and head to Hongcun for accommodation and dinner.

6:00 PM

Free time at night. The night view of Hongcun is also charming. Don't get lost.

Driving time: about 5 hours

Day 2 Hongcun → Xieli → Nanjing

07:30

After a tiring day of playing, we slept until we woke up naturally. After dinner, we had some free time in Hongcun.

09:00

Our group leader will gather everyone for a 5km trek through Hongcun to Xieli, a hidden gem of autumn colors. We'll pass Qishu Lake, once tranquil and elegant, now ablaze with life.
Few people know its name, yet its scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. Formerly known as the Dongfanghong Reservoir, Qishu Lake reaches depths of dozens of meters at its deepest points. The lake and mountains, shimmering with emerald waters, are like a virgin, shrouded in mist and rain. In autumn, large patches of pink flowers gradually bloom along the lake's edge, painting the riverbank a striking hue of pink, a visual feast. During years when the reservoir's water level is low, the exposed riverbed is covered in grass and wildflowers, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Continuing on, we'll pass through several Huizhou-style villages before arriving at Xieli, a secluded and rustic village reminiscent of the paradise described by Tao Yuanming. The vibrant red, yellow, green, and purple foliage blanket the mountains, creating a striking backdrop against the snow-white horse-head walls. The curling smoke from the cooking stove makes your heart hear a distant call.

13:00

The bus is waiting for everyone and we will take it back to Nanjing.

6:00 PM

Arrived at the departure point in Nanjing and the group disbanded happily.

Driving time: about 5 hours

Hiking: 5km, about 3 hours

Tachuan, located in Yi County, Anhui Province, in the mountainous region of southern Anhui, is known as "a village in a Chinese painting." In late autumn, trees, fields, and villages create a picturesque and unique autumn landscape. In the early morning, a thin mist shrouds the trees, making them appear and disappear. Farmhouses appear and disappear, and eaves and corners suddenly appear among the red maples. Pink walls and black tiles are shaded by golden leaves, creating a poetic scene reminiscent of a Chinese landscape painting. This tranquil and beautiful village is Tachuan, Anhui, known as "one of the three great autumn colors of China," on par with Beijing's Xiangshan and Jiuzhaigou.

Hongcun, located in the northeast of Yi County, Anhui Province, nestles against the backdrop of the Huangshan Mountains, shrouded in mist and clouds, resembling a long scroll of mountains and rivers. Its blend of natural and cultural landscapes has earned it the nickname "a village in a Chinese painting." Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000, Hongcun is a unique "ox-shaped village" built in ancient China based on bionics: "the mountain represents the ox's head, the trees its horns, the bridge its hooves, and the house its body." The founding ancestor, Wang Jiu, was a descendant of Wang Hua, Duke of Yue in the early Tang Dynasty.
