Tunxi Old Street is a short pedestrian street with architectural styles from the Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. It is also a bustling commercial street in Huangshan City. Many tourists who first come to Huangshan will come here to take a walk, experience the bluestone slabs and ancient Huizhou architecture, and visit the museum.

Liyang Old Street boasts classic Hui-style architecture, with gray tiles, white walls, bluestone slabs, and horse-head-shaped walls. Just around the corner, you might find a cozy cafe, a chapel, or even a cinema. Classical and modern, history and fashion, merge here. Mottled walls speak of history. Unlike the crowded streets of Tunxi Old Street, a leisurely stroll along the stream offers a picturesque scene with every step. Around the next corner, you might find a cafe or a wine cellar, a harmonious blend of Eastern and Western influences.

Day 2 Huangshan → Yangchan Tulou → Shitan

All day

Enjoy a buffet breakfast at the hotel in the morning. After breakfast, depart in time to visit Yangchan Tulou, a unique architectural wonder in southern Anhui and a high mountain village in She County (approximately 1 hour drive).

Around 9:30 AM, we arrived at the transfer point at the foot of Yangchan Mountain and boarded the scenic area shuttle (6 people/vehicle) up the mountain to the ancient village. The Yangchan Tulou (earth buildings) are a unique architectural wonder in southern Anhui, with over 300 buildings arranged in rows and rows, each with a unique style. Compared to the commercial and sophisticated Huangling area of Wuyuan, the Yangchan Tulou are more rustic and gentle. From afar, you can admire the inky mountains and the blooming wildflowers, a rare and vibrant spectacle.

At 12:00 PM, enjoy lunch at the Yangchan Tulou. In the afternoon, proceed to Shitan Ancient Village. First, visit the Wu Clan Ancestral Hall at the foot of the mountain. Then, hike up the mountain along the ancient bluestone path or take the village shuttle (seasonally controlled and sometimes not required). Along the way, the scent of chrysanthemums fills the air, and golden and white Huizhou chrysanthemums bloom in the mountains, making for a wonderful photo op. Upon reaching the summit, visit Beishan Deserted Village and explore the old houses, maple trees, and ginkgo trees. See the white-walled, black-tiled Huizhou-style houses nestled amidst the vibrant autumn colors. At the right time, visit the Xiatai Observation Deck for a must-take group photo. From this vantage point, the distant mountains and ancient village are visible before your eyes, along with the Changyuan River flowing eastward. You can wait for the sunset here.
Return to the farmhouse at 5:30 PM and arrange your accommodation. In the evening, enjoy stargazing or a leisurely chat with the farmers.

Driving time: Tunxi to Yangchan, about 1.5 hours; Yangchan to Shitan, about 30 minutes

Note: ① For Yangchan Tulou, you will need to transfer to a local scenic bus to reach the ancient village
(6 people/car). ② For Shitan accommodation at a farmhouse on the mountain, local transportation may be temporarily restricted, requiring you to transfer to a small bus (6 people/car). If there is a restriction and you need to transfer to the mountain, the travel agency will cover the cost of the small bus. Otherwise, there will be no change in the cost.

Day 3 Shitan → → North Bank → → Jigongjian → → She County

All day

Students who are diligent in the morning can go to the observation deck to take pictures of the sunrise. If you are lucky, you can experience the glorious sunrise and the magnificent sea of clouds over Shitan.

08:30 After lunch, we set off for Jigongjian. On the way, we passed the North Bank Covered Bridge, a spectacular Qing Dynasty covered bridge in the ancient Huizhou area. Here, we can get off the car and stroll, creating a masterpiece with a strong cultural atmosphere and slowly experiencing the leisurely autumn of ancient Huizhou.

We arrived at Jigongjian around noon. Let's have lunch in the village. In late autumn, the colorful mountains of Huizhou are ablaze with color, creating a picturesque scene. Jigongjian, located 700 meters above sea level, is frost-free year-round. Its acidic soil gives the persimmons there a sweet flavor unlike any other. Because the persimmons are shaped like lanterns, they are known locally as "lantern persimmons." We strolled around, taking photos, and experiencing the unique charm of the Persimmon Village in southern Anhui during autumn.

We left Jigongjian at the right time and headed to She County. Here, you'll find the ancient city of Huizhou, founded during the Qin Dynasty and one of China's four most well-preserved ancient cities. It boasts a thousand years of history and culture. The eight-legged archway, built by three dynasties' elders, broke with the established rules of monarchy and ministers. Dousan Street, a treasure-filled alley known as the "ancient wealthy district," and the weathered city walls offer countless stories of Huizhou. We'll stay near the ancient city tonight, where you can freely explore Huizhou delicacies.

Driving time: Shitan to Jigongjian, about 1.5 hours; Jigongjian to Shexian, about 1 hour

Day 4 She County → Chengkan → Huangshan North Station → Tunxi City

All day

After breakfast, we'll head to Chengkan, a 40-minute drive away. This is the oldest and most well-preserved Bagua Feng Shui village in the world. CCTV annually features reports on its autumn sun-drying folk culture. A visit to Chengkan promises a life without obstacles. In this land of national treasures, you'll be captivated by its ancient architecture. Follow the guided tour and learn about the village's history and culture. Lunch will be served nearby, followed by a bus back to the high-speed rail station.

We are expected to arrive at Huangshan North Station around 14:00 and arrive in Tunxi City at 14:30, ending our trip. We bid farewell and see you next time.

Driving time: Shexian to Chengkan, about 45 minutes; Chengkan to North Station, about 25 minutes; North Station to Tunxi City, about 30 minutes

Yangchan Tulou: "Yang" means facing the sun, and "chan" means steep. The entire village is situated on a hillside, hence the name Yangchan. In southern Shenzhou, there's a saying: "Blessed people build earthen walls (i.e., earthen buildings)." After being featured by photography enthusiasts a few years ago, Yangchan Village has become a popular destination for self-driving tourists, hikers, sketch artists, and photography enthusiasts. It has rapidly risen from an obscure mountain village to a widely acclaimed "Top 100 Photography Spots."

Shitan Village, nestled at the foot of the Baiji Mountain range, is a little over half an hour's hike up. Hidden within the mountains are dozens of quaint villages, accessed by a narrow, narrow path. Villagers relied on mules to bring in supplies, production materials, and construction materials.

Huizhou Ancient City, also known as Shexian Ancient City and formerly known as Xin'an Commandery, is located in Huicheng Town, Shexian County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, covering a total area of 24.7 square kilometers. Founded during the Qin Dynasty, the ancient city served as the seat of Huizhou Commandery, prefecture, and prefecture since the Tang Dynasty. The county and prefecture governments were co-located within the same city, creating a unique "city within a city" style. Huizhou Ancient City is the birthplace of Huixue, one of China's three major local schools of thought, and is known as the "Zou and Lu of Southeast China, the State of Etiquette and Rites."

Chengkan, located at the southern foot of the Huangshan Scenic Area in Anhui Province, a World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site, is a national 5A-level tourist attraction. Nestled among lush mountains and verdant bamboo, Chengkan boasts a blend of natural and cultural attractions. Anciently known as Longxi, Chengkan was originally under the jurisdiction of She County, the capital of Huizhou. In the late Tang Dynasty, cousins Luo Tianzhen and Luo Tianzhi of Nanchang Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, relocated their family to She County. They chose a site forty miles northwest, named Longxi, and renamed it Chengkan. They built a house and settled there. Since the Song Dynasty, Chengkan has seen the rise of Huizhou merchants and flourished cultural and educational institutions, establishing a unique presence in the cultural and historical development of Huizhou.

Jigongjian is famous for its lantern persimmons, earning it the nickname "the village on the ladder." Unlike the flat persimmons found in the south of the Yangtze River, villagers climb the trees using ladders to pick the half-ripe persimmons, peel them, and dry them in the sun to make persimmon cakes.
