[Hokkaido] Abashiri Prison Museum - A History Museum

Abashiri, Hokkaido, has had prisons and jails since ancient times. Near the still-active Abashiri Prison is the Abashiri Prison Museum, a former prison. The gate looks very imposing, but rest assured that it is a proper museum. The former prison facilities have been preserved to some extent, and the museum conveys what kind of facilities they were. The power or solemnity of the facility was quite impressive. I visited in the afternoon, and the atmosphere, combined with the dimness, was particularly impressive.
