The World of Drift Ice in March Hokkaido, Abashiri

In late February to early March, you can board the Aurora icebreaker in Abashiri, located in northern Hokkaido, to view the drift ice that has floated in from the Sea of Okhotsk along the coast.

Although it is said that spotting drift ice can be challenging without good luck, I was fortunate enough to witness a large amount of it.

It was truly a special and unforgettable experience to see drift ice, something you would typically expect to find in Northern Europe or northern Canada, right next door in Japan.
