The Shiretoko Peninsula is located at the easternmost tip of the Japanese island of Hokkaido, extending into the Sea of Okhotsk. It faces Russia's Kunashir Island across the sea.
The Japanese name of the Shiretoko Peninsula means the end of the world in the local Ainu language.
The Shiretoko Peninsula is characterized by volcanic activity and being the southernmost point in the Northern Hemisphere, a steep and majestic landscape formed by drift ice and rich wildlife. Especially large mammals such as brown bears and killer whales, as well as large birds of prey that are threatened with extinction, they inhabit many species, and the interaction and interdependence of various wildlife at the top of their food chain.
After evaluating this biodiversity and the connections between ocean, river and forest ecosystems, the Shiretoko Peninsula was listed as a World Natural Heritage Site at the World Natural Heritage Conference held in South Africa on July 17, 2005. This is Japan's third and first World Natural Heritage Site to include an ocean.
In my mind, Shiretoko Peninsula is one of the most beautiful places in Japan. No praise can compare to it. Once you have been there, you want to go there again, and after you go there, you want to go there again. It is the only place in Japan that you want to go there again. #Overseas Travel #Japan Travel #Japan Destinations #Japan Travel Guide #Japan Travel #Hokkaido Travel #Hokkaido #World Heritage #World Natural Heritage #Peninsula #Snow Scenery #Sea of Okhotsk #Sea View #Shiretoko Five Lakes
