Akita Prefectural Museum of Art

The Akita Prefectural Museum of Art was designed by the renowned architect Tadao Ando. The museum primarily showcases the art collection of Masayoshi Hirano, including the large mural 'Akita Events' by the famous French-Japanese artist Tsuguharu Foujita.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the museum's iconic spiral staircase, which has no supporting columns. Looking up, the triangular skylight allows natural light to pour in, creating a harmonious blend of nature and architecture.

The museum has three floors. The first floor is a rental exhibition space available to the local community. The second and third floors feature permanent exhibitions of Tsuguharu Foujita's 'Akita Events' mural, Masayoshi Hirano's collection, and special temporary exhibitions.

Tickets are required to visit the exhibitions on the second and third floors, with prices varying depending on the exhibition. If you do not wish to visit the exhibitions, you can enjoy a coffee at the 'Kofu' café on the second floor while taking in the view of Senshu Park.
