Senshu Park - Otemon Gate Moat Promenade and Akita City Cultural Creation Center

#AugustDestinations2025
In 2024, a new floating bridge-style promenade was completed along the moat of Senshu Park's Otemon Gate. Approximately 254 meters long and 3 meters wide, it is paved with artificial wood and equipped with 0.8-meter-high handrails, providing a safe and comfortable walking space. This promenade not only creates a new pedestrian route between JR Akita Station and Senshu Park, but also allows visitors to admire the blooming summer lotus flowers up close and personal, enjoying a close encounter with the water. From early July to mid-September each year, when the red lotus flowers of Yushan are in bloom, the greenery and shadows of the flowers lining the moat create a romantic stroll.

A short walk along the promenade leads to the Akita City Cultural Creation Center. Originally the Akita Prefectural Museum of Art, completed in 1967, this building features a high roof and circular windows designed to allow natural light to flood in, specifically to showcase Tsuguharu Foujita's monumental mural, "Akita no Goings." After relocating in 2013, the museum underwent renovations to strengthen its structure, update its facilities, and introduce large glass windows, wooden terraces, and a grassy plaza, creating a more open and welcoming space.

The Akita City Cultural Creation Center is now the city's cultural center. Adhering to the concept of "coming together, coming together, having a place," it provides an open space for creation and exchange for all. It hosts a diverse range of exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events, encouraging residents to move from inspirational conversations to actual creation, spreading their creativity throughout the city. Whether strolling through the lotus ponds or participating in art events, this area offers a unique opportunity to experience the charm of both nature and culture.
