Towering over the city of Almeria, the Alcazaba is a historical wonder that should not be missed. The site is a former Arab/Moorish fortress, palace and city wall complex that is well maintained with many attractions to explore on foot.
If visiting is during the summer/Wolmer months when the heat isn’t so stifling, give yourself time to really wander around. You can explore at your own pace, and there are plenty of signs explaining things (some in English and Spanish, some in Spanish only). There are also many cute and docile stray cats around the fort, and they all seem to enjoy meeting tourists...
